Perhaps the midwife amped up the story a bit. Sounds a bit exagerated to me.

Oral semen doesn't help for labor. There might be some benefit in the prostaglandins on the cervix in prelabor, but even that is not really proven. At one point there was some indication that semen exposure/ingestion during pregnancy might reduce the risk of preeclampsia, but that was not shown to be true on further studies. The mother having orgasms can help speed up labor and definitely does help in distraction during the early process and prelabor, but once things get going it is unlikely she'll want to do anything, and with what she's going through you DON'T bug her, just support.

I went through a couple of births as main support for the mom, and I looked into pretty much everything. Above not absolutely guaranteed, but it is what I found in a review of literature.

I am thinking that is not correct. As neither group of midwives I used, 3 the first time and 4 the second, ever said that was a good way to help with labor. My first group was quite the hippy ladies and if it were true...they would have suggested it!

Not to mention in the middle of labor I was in no way able to give a blow job, as with most women I would guess who do a natural birth. I had to concentrate very hard to ride the labor pain. Doing something else would not have helped me one bit.
