Childbirth Complications

I am looking to found out about childbirth complications so I can write some good stories

Perineal tearing and subsequent bruising and swelling requiring catheterization. Pretty common and there's lot you can do with that from a MedFet writing standpoint - sutures and catheters etc - humiliating/embarrasing without being life-threatening.

As I recall my wife had an episiotomy during birth of our first child. I just looked it up and it seems it’s not recommended anymore because it can actually increase tearing during natural childbirth. You could certainly expand on the pros and cons in a medfet story.

Perineal tearing is an issue. To avoid it, some midwives or obstetricians prefer to cut the perineum cleanly (episiotomy). Episiotomy is however controversial: some say it's overused, at least in some hospitals, and it may have adverse consequences. In both cases, sutures are needed, and some women report loss of sensitivity (including sexual sensitivity). There was a controversy about some obstetricians allegedly suturing women tightly apparently in order to improve the husband's sexual feelings (tight vaginal entrance).

The umbilical cord may wrap itself around the fetus and fail to transport blood correctly, which leads to fetal stress. Nowadays this is detected through monitoring and may result in an emergency C-section, or accelerated delivery.

You could also talk about complications or issues resulting from a breech delivery (e.g. butt first vs head first). Doctor trying to turn the baby, morbidity concerns etc.

It shouldn’t. Mine was pretty bad, I should have been given a C-Section.
