Abdominal auscultation

Out of interest, did he develop a medical fetish thing out of these sorts of experiences too? Perhaps he might not have told you he did, because some brothers definitely wouldn't share that with each other, but have you ever suspected he did? Ever wondered if he owns a stethoscope like you like do?

We are pretty close, but I've never suspected that he had the same interest develop as I did.

Abdominal auscultation is kinda undervalued but can be important, mainly in 2 types of presentations. In a well person exam you're listening for bruits. These are the equivalents of murmurs but not originating in the heart. They stem from a disruption of smooth, laminar flow and might originate from an aneurysm or arteriosclerotic narrowing. Disease of the abdominal aorta might be audible midline above the umbilicus (belly button). The abdomen is auscultated with the diaphragm of the stethoscope because it discerns higher pitched sounds better. The second situation where auscultation is valuable is when a patient presents with abdominal pain. If there's an intestinal blockage the bowel sounds might be higher pitched and shorter rather than normal lower pitched intestinal rumbling (borborygmi). If for whatever reason the intestines have stopped their rhythmic contractions and become totally quiet (like maybe due to a perforation and resultant sepsis) you'll hear no bowel sounds at all. So overall, auscultation can be quite useful.

A childhood abdominal exam is really what got me into medfet in the first place so it’s a favorite topic of mine. Many fantasy scenarios include a long abdominal exam full of extensive auscultation and palpation.

I've just recently encountered how erotic and intimate an abdominal auscultation can be. It's such an intimate part of an exam. That whole doctor-patient synergy, is realized both from a clinical and intimate standpoint. Keyword is intimate. Rather palpate than listen

Of course I'd rather palpate too, but one must not skip inspection, auscultation and percussion...all important parts of a most thorough abdominal examination. I still encounter young women who find auscultation of bowel sounds to be embarrassing. One young lady said "it's so weird that you can hear them....i don't like that" with a laugh and a blush. Another smiles when I listen to her bowel sounds and giggles if I comment. She gets really sheepish when I listen to her aorta as she can feel the stethoscope bouncing up and down on her tummy. My Welch Allyn Harvey DLX is the coldest steth I have, and that's good for some laughter and squirming, but a few minutes in the freezer is good enough for my Erka Finesse, Harvey Elite and the others. Sometimes they comment on how warm my hands are in comparison to the steth.

I did this a couple of times with my ex girlfriend, having her lie naked in bed. There really is a lot to listen for, it's almost a playground! Truly amazing how thoroughly you can listen to someones' body sounds.

It's the same when I'm in the patient role lying on the bed stripped down to my boxers. My girlfriend will listen to all four quadrants for ages describing the sounds inside and letting me know "you have a very active tummy". It's sensual having an ice cold stethoscope moving over my bare skin to listen to the sounds in my belly.

When I examine a woman, my favorite part is bare chested auscultation of lungs and heart, followed by breast exam. Then I like to auscultate the belly, listening to the abdominal aorta and bowel sounds, then deep palpation of the belly. Remember one super petite 22 year old I examined years ago. It was her first time to be stethed bare chested since she was a little girl, her first breast exam, and first belly exam. Everything inside her was so easy to hear and feel.

I almost prefer it over palpation. It’s an oddly intimate moment where someone gets to listen to a part of my body that, honestly, only my sexual partners have. I love the silence in the room and the focus of the doctor.

As someone who's had IBS for years, both my ob-gyn and my primary care listen to my abdomen (bowels) and palpate the abdominal area during my check ups. I don't really find it erotic or exciting in the settings it happens in. As anyone with IBS can tell you, it's not a fun time when you have a flare.

Yes. When my abdomen is being examined, I'm definitely not in any sort of fantasy or fetish head space. Just hoping nothing out of the ordinary is felt or heard!

Auscultation of the abdomen is very important. However, it is neglected by doctors. At least in Poland. To properly listen to the entire abdomen, the patient must undress down to her underpants. If the panties are quite high, he must lower them to the border of the pubic mound.

Abdominal auscultation is incredible and very intimate! The doctor intently listening to the sounds of your fully exposed belly as they watch their patients belly breathing up and down and jiggling from shivering! watch the stethoscope bouncing as they auscultate the abdominal aorta and femoral arteries.

I listen to the heart, lungs and abdomen. I love hearing the heart beat, along with air moving in and out of the lungs. But abdominal auscultation is just as important as the other 2.

I can fully confirm this! I had several stays at clinic by intestinal inflammation in my teenaged time, was diagnosed with ibs by the military exams and got the diagnose of crohns diesease later! So i got so many and absolutely intense abdominal exams so often, with all that long auscultations, perussions and so long and deep palpations, both of my abdomen and of my (outie) navel, too (because i have a small hernia too).

I’m not sure there’s an area I don’t like subjected to that kind of thing :-). I had a girlfriend once who loved that part of examining me. I say loved but it was really the part she most liked. Unfortunately she wasn’t keen on some of the other more “interesting” medical plays!

I think it's the auscultation i prefer the most. My belly is a very sensitive area, and the feeling that it is being observed and listened to by the doctor excites me. I liked it since a very young age.

There is also a test called electrogastrogram, which seems exciting to me, but it's very rarely used as far as i know

It would remind of childhood. I often went to the doc for stomach issues.

@fantasypatient I definitely understand this. I think part of what eventually got me to Zity, in the long run, was an examination for appendicitis when I was a kid.

For me the main pleasure comes from auscultating the heart. But i do love a very nice stomach auscultation!
