My background is fairly puritanical and I very much had the idea that masturbation was sinful and such drilled into me. I started looking for gyn exam descriptions out of a combination of fearful curiosity and anticipatory excitement. Haven’t heard “bees knees” in a long time to describe something pleasurable. Any anal play is the bees knees for me ? I’ll have to look up where that got coined. Trying to understand this request better. After some explanation, the first post describes his fetish or "what he likes to do" as being naked then spanking and/or catheter insertions. I was a bit confused, too, but I looked up the wiktionary for this term, and got this:

Noun. ulterior motive (plural ulterior motives) An alternative or extrinsic reason for doing something, especially when concealed or when differing from the stated or apparent reason.

My two main fetishes are 1) girls in medically necessary protective masks, and 2) girls in footed pajamas. The origins of both of these fetishes couldn't be more straightforward in my eyes.

Masks are my medfet, and I got into seeing female patients in masks through my interest in medical documentaries, which in turn was born by my own inpatient experiences, of which I have many.

Footed pajamas are more on the ABDL spectrum, I think, and that can be traced to a singular instance where I was at my babysiter's house one night. She called for both of her daughters to get into their pajamas. When they came out, the older one was dressed in a footed onesie (or what we called "blanket sleeper" back then). One piece, pink, with feet, vinyl soles, and vinyl toecaps.

Nothing ulterior about any of this, I don't think, though I will confess that certain masks look like gags somewhat. My ulterior motive/s for my dental/mouth and anaesthesia fetishes - and resulting fantasies - may have been simply that by the age of puberty (if not earlier) I found myself to be gay, and without sexual partners of any kind (involuntary chastity?) So my fantasies, which focussed on things I'd undergone as a boy, resembled those remembered experiences of my childhood. In other words, they invariably involved me (!), a seemingly 'nice' young man, although now I might be an onlooker or even the doctor or dentist himself. A lot of fetishes have a 'compensatory' aspect, don't you think?

It had about the same meaning in the 1920's as 'the berries'. That slang meant something/someone was great or good-looking. 'That dame is the berries.'

Finding an ulterior motive is not always easy or apparent. However I've been thinking on this for many many years, ever since getting on the Internet back in the 1990's. That is for certain.

Anyway, I have a feeling that for me, most of it comes from trying to relive experiences from my youth/younger days, that could have evolved into something more explicitly sexual and fun, but didn't for any number of reasons, mainly my being too shy and inexperienced and something of a wimp when young. I think I would like to conclude these remembered and forgotten experiences in a more pleasurable way than happened in real life.

Of course that is impossible to do. But one can fantasize and imagine how things could have evolved more pleasurably or sexually. That seems to me to be the basis of why people have/enjoy/pursue certain (fetish) activities. They wish to either relive something pleasurable from the past or they want to restructure an experience that had potential but never went anywhere, into something more exciting/fun/pleasurable.

There was a person a few years ago (may still be around?) named Scoops Callahan who was also known as "1920s Reporter Guy" who had legitimate press credentials and access to NFL and MLB locker rooms and press conferences. He'd show up in a zoot suit and ask questions in 1920s slang. That guy was a riot.

Well yes, to a point, wino v2! But there is frequently a great deal to fetish-formation beyond just re-living an earlier experience! Several posts in an earlier thread about fetishes 'in the big context' brought this out, l recall. The original experience may have been quite traumatic, often happening in childhood, when the child couldn't fully get its mind around what was happening - and the essence of the experience for the child was that it had been powerless to avoid being 'taken advantage of' by an adult (e.g., a doctor). Only later might the memory of that experience become distinctly sexualised, typically at puberty, with a clear 'sadistic' or 'masochistic' aspect, or both (perhaps alternating).
