Searching for cheap flogger to see if we like it

Hello all!

I'm interested in getting a cheap flogger to see if my partner or I like it. I've seen numerous suggestions on these boards for a deerskin flogger to start, but I haven't been able to find any under $50 that I've seen.

I don't mind buying a quality product once I know I'll like it, but $100+ upfront for something we may not like is a bit steep.

I have found riding crops very cheap at farm and ranch stores and riding schools. Look for any horse riding schools in your area and call and ask where the nearest supply shop might be.

You can find some leather shoestrings and tie them on the end of a kitchen implement like a serving spoon. Make the legnth 18 inches or so. You can use soft rope or anything else to try it out. Start very softly, just dragging it slowly across a back or bottom can be erotic. I won't work as well as buying one but it might be enough to decide if you want to spend the money. My late partner had an Elk flogger and I used this at various speeds and tempos. My favorite was to make her lay on her stomach with her legs spread and use it on her bottom with an occasional flick so it hit her anus and clit.. Yummy

For top quality floggers, try Etsy.

For inexpensive ones, search eBay. You will find cost effective ones there that will produce the desired “thud” without breaking the bank.

Should you really get into using floggers visit the Vending room at a local Kink conference. Most established Kink confrences allow free access to the vending area to encourage sales.

You get what you pay for... if you want a nice thud, get a deerskin flogger. They are fantastic. leather is a heavier thud and higher potential pain, a martinet is a type of flogger, it has thin round leather. It bites when applied and leaves marks which dissipate rather quickly.

If you are close to NYC, go to some of the S&M shops and try them out. That is your best solution.

Depending upon where you are in NJ, Philadelphia has some shops. In Montclaire, NJ- Purple Passion use to have a shop.

Types of floggers:

Deerskin--you can swing as hard as you like and you can try to beat the crap out of someone, but it won't hurt (too much) and won't leave marks. This is a very soft leather.

Buffalo--a fairly heavy medium hardness leather of moderate density. You can swing it hard and hurt somepone or go lightly or moderately and it will be a heavy thud with moderate sting.

Latigo--a moderate weight leather that it dense and the tails have fairly sharp edges. This will leave marks and the edges of the tails will leave a redness in addition to the welts. Many men's dress belts are latigo. This will sting.

Rubber--these are fairly heavy and will leave marks. Rubber floggers hurt especially if you swing it hard. These really sting a lot.

Rope--depends entirely on the type of rope it is made of. Some ropes are soft, others are hard. The diameter also matters. Many (about 30 to 50, 1/8") bundled rope tails will hurt like hell if they are a high tech sailboat racing line. The same goes for a fewer number of heavier high tech racing lines. Cotton and some synthetics are soft, others made of kevlar or other specialized polymers are hard and really hurt. Tying knots onto the end of the rope tail also increases the pain. I made a few rope floggers from 3/4 and one inch diameter line and they don't leave marks but you'll feel like you just got mugged because of how heavy it is.

Prices will range from $50 to $250 depending on quality and how beautifully made it is.
