Beth was still tearful after receiving her BCG injection and although he saw her inspecting the swollen blister Ben didn't say anything, better he thought, not to make too much fuss and just get all of her jabs done as quickly as possible so she had less to worry about.

Beth tensed as she saw him opening the plastic packaging of a new syringe and she pouted and shot him a sulky and petulant look. She would submit to the shots because she knew Ben was right and she needed them but that didn't mean she was happy about it or that she was going to make it easy for him.

Ben was unmoved by her behaviour, he just held her arm firmly and continued to swipe the cold pungent alcohol wipe across her delicate skin.

"Hold very still Bethany. This one also has quite a nasty sting to it"

Beth turned her head to watch as Ben, once again angled the needle to 15 degrees and carefully inserted it just under her skin. She studied his face. He was concentrating hard. As immunisations went, both BCG and yellow fever were skilled vaccines to administer as the serum needed to administered just into the dermis, the upper layer of the skin to ensure the best immune response in the patient.

Beth moaned softly as the needle penetrated and as Ben steadied her arm, she let out a long drawn out "Ouwwww" as he depressed the plunger and the sharp stinging serum was forced under her delicate milky skin. Ben smiled sympathetically and placed an alcohol wipe at the site, slowly removing the needle and discarding it into the sharps box.

As expected, a small swollen lump appeared on her arm at the injection site and very soon a red bloom began spreading out from where the needle had punctured her skin and the serum had been injected. The reaction would not be as spectacular as the BCG injection, nor would it be likely to leave a scar but it would still be very sore for around a week. Ben knew these were both very irritating injections and he was proud of Bethany for taking them both so bravely.

"Well done Beth, I have a couple more for your butt now but let's try to make those ones more fun shall we? You were very brave. You deserve a reward....."
