Sarah leads Arielle and Adam into exam room 3, closes the door, and motions for them to have a seat on the two chairs in the right side corner of the exam room. The exam table is next to the two chairs, kitty cornered in the right rear of the room. To the left of the exam table is a laptop stand, which Sarah logs into after taking a seat on a rolling stool. Between the exam table and the laptop stand is a Mayo stand. Next to the laptop stand is a counter with a small sink, with a couple of cabinets above the counter, below the counter are more cabinets with drawers. In the left rear corner of the exam room is a weight scale, next to that is a scale mounted on the wall to check height.

Sarah says “According to the notes for your appointments, you two need some medical clearance forms signed, so you can compete in semi professional dancing, is that correct?” Adam and Arielle say yes. Sarah says “Well for starters, congratulations on making the cut! Now as far as signing the forms, I will need to give each of you a physical exam first. Adam, since you are a new patient here, I will be giving you what is called a new patient physical. That basically means as a new patient, I will be giving you a thorough physical exam, to establish a baseline for your overall health. I will also be getting a detailed family and medical history from you, since we don’t really have a lot of that information, other than what you filled out on the forms you just handed in.”

Sarah turns her attention to Arielle, and says “I see from your chart that the last physical you had here was almost three and a half years ago, April of 2020 to be exact, is that correct?” Arielle sheepishly replies “Umm, yeah, I haven’t had a physical since.” Sarah says “I also noticed on your chart that you haven’t had your first Pap test and pelvic exam yet, have you had a Pap and pelvic done somewhere else?” Arielle, blushing from embarrassment, quietly replies “No.” Sarah says “The screening guidelines recommend that all women should have their first Pap test and pelvic exam at age 21, as you are now 23, it should be included as a part of your physical today. Are you currently on your period, or have you had intercourse in the past 48 hours? The reason I ask is if you answer yes to either question, I will need to schedule the Pap and pelvic for later, which would hold me up from signing your medical clearance form today.” Arielle replies “No, to both questions.” Sarah says “Okay, then I will include the well woman exam as a part of your physical today, the well woman exam will also include a breast exam.” Arielle’s heart sinks and her throat is suddenly dry, she knows that there is no talking her way out of getting her first Pap and pelvic today, not if she wants that damn form signed, that is. She crosses her right leg over her left, and nervously kicks her right foot back and forth slightly. Adam notices and is once again admiring Arielle’s shiny nylon covered legs, which look extra glossy from the bright overhead LED lights.

Sarah turns her attention back to Adam, and says “Okay Adam, when was your last physical?” Adam replies “It’s been almost two years. I haven’t had one since because my doctor retired about a year and a half ago, and I just haven’t taken the time to find a new one until now.” Sarah says “Your prior doctor’s patient charts are in our system, since we all belong to the same hospital group. So I am now looking at your chart, since your appointment is first, I will start with you. Let’s go over your family and health histories.”

Sarah spends the next several minutes getting detailed information on Adam’s family health history and personal health history. Satisfied she has all the information she needs, she says “Okay Adam, let’s get started. First thing is I will have you provide a urine sample. Take a right out the door and the bathroom is at the end of the hallway. Leave the sample on the shelf behind the small door on the wall.” She hands Adam a sample cup and cap with a label already attached with his name and patient number. After Adam returns, she has him remove his shoes and gets his height and weight, then has him sit up on the exam table to check his vitals. The table paper crinkles loudly as he sits down. After taking his vitals, she tells Adam “Your blood pressure is excellent, as are your resting heart rate and respiratory rate. Now go ahead and undress down to your undershorts, you can leave your socks on, then have a seat back on the table, I will be back shortly.” She draws a privacy curtain closed that is hanging near the door as she leaves.

Adam says “Oh man, here we go!” Arielle says “I was afraid we were going to get the works done to us today.” She is enjoying watching Adam disrobing, removing his form fitting polo shirt first, then his jeans.
