A new role for Emma

The Role.

This is set in 1980 at Maxton Academy, an exclusive private school with traditional values.

Emma had recently begun her new employment as a house mother at the exclusive Maxton Academy. She was working at the sixth form houses, splitting her time between the two. During her 3rd week, she was meeting with the Deputy Head, Miss Fairfax, where they were discussing how Emma was finding her new role.

“You are settling in well, Emma. I hope you finding life at Maxton Academy to your satisfaction, and that the work is varied and fulfilling?” asked Miss Fairfax.

“Thank you. It’s been a learning curve, but I’m settling in well I feel.”

“That’s good” said Miss Fairfax, “as we have a job for you which will add to your learning. In 2 weeks' time, the annual school medicals take place, they take about 3 weeks, and we need some members of staff to organise the pupils. The prefects manage the lower forms, but staff handle the sixth formers. As you are a house mother on the sixth form houses, it wold seem logical for you to take this role.”

“I can do that” said Emma, her mind flashing back to her own school medicals, making her blush. “What do I need to do?”

“Excellent. There are 2 requirements. Firstly, pupils are taken down in groups of 4 to be examined, you will need to ensure they are ready to go in to see the Doctor. That means stripped to their underpants for the boys and bras and knickers for the girls. Wait with the group to ensure they are supervised, and at the end of the last exam, take them to get dressed.” Miss Fairfax paused.

“That seems straightforward enough” said Emma, “What’s the second thing?”

“Well, two pupils have requested a chaperone to accompany them for their examination, it’s Angela and Lucas. They have both requested a female chaperone, are you able to accompany them both during their examinations?”

Emma thought about it for a few seconds and agreed.

“One more thing, take a slipper just in case anyone gets rowdy,” said Miss Fairfax. Emma gave a nervous smile, knowing what that meant. “Hopefully I won’t need it, but I’ll take it, as you say.”

Emma excused herself from the meeting as it ended, her mind racing over what she had agreed to undertake.
