Kelly removes the blanket from Mollie, leaving her naked body exposed to the room. Kelly takes the clipper from the cart and looks at her right axilla, then left. Neither has any hair to clip, so she turns her attention to Mollie’s pubic hair. While it started nicely trimmed, it has to go, so Kelly quickly clips it off. She then wipes away the hair with a damp towel. Kelly then lifts Mollies legs up into the frog position while Luz begins to prep Mollie’s chest for the implants, covering each breast, over her sternum, her upper arms, both sides, and up to her neck with the red chlorhexidine scrub. Kelly dons her sterile gloves then spreads the Mollie’s labia. She swipes over her urethra with the betadine swabs. She then takes the Foley catheter and slowly inserts it into Mollie’s urethra. Urine starts to flow into the collection bag. Kelly inflates the balloon and tapes the catheter and tubing up over Mollie’s belly, as Mollie’s thighs will be the next procedure.

Luz brings her tables and carts into position for the breast implants. She starts to drape Mollie with the surgical towels, under her breasts, across her neck, and across both sides. As she finishes the last towel, the surgeon enters the room and Luz starts to assist him into his gown and sterile gloves. Together, they return to Mollie and begin to drape her with the blue paper drapes, starting from just under her breasts to the bottom of the table. The second drape goes from the top of Mollie’s breasts, over the anesthesia screen, and settles just below her chin, with Dayna making sure that she can see Mollie’s face. Lastly, two other drapes are placed over Mollie’s arms and down the sides of her chest.

Kelly begins the time out. As she calls out each part line of the checklist, there is agreement from everyone in the room, except Mollie of course, as she is knocked out cold.

“This is Mollie, she’s 23, and our first procedure is a breast augmentation using the transaxillary endoscopic approach.”

“The second procedure will be liposuction and reshaping of her thighs.”

“Can we see the markings for the breast surgery?”

“Antibiotics have been started.”

“Two round Allergan textured implants are on the back table in saline. I’ve already entered the information on them into the medical record.”

“Any surgical or blood loss concerns?”

“Any concerns from anyone? Ok, we can begin.”
