The MASS Thermometer

PART 3: THE COMBINED BATCH

The following morning, Faith was woken up by Julie, who had a large tray of food and a jug of orange juice with her.

“I realized last night after I got to the room across the hall and went to bed that I had not given you anything to eat or drink the entire day. You must be starving.”

Julie sat down on the stool beside Faith’s head and began to feed her. She ate every last thing on the tray. As she was finishing up her orange juice, Dr. Jen came in with a medium-sized, flat container.

“I see you were hungry,” she commented after seeing the empty tray and almost-empty jug of orange juice. She set the container down on the tray that was by Faith’s bottom.

“We just got our 500 thermometer delivery,” she stated. “Now, for the idea that I mentioned last night: I figured that we would combine both the 250 and 500-count batches, then split them up by diameter. There are 150 of each diameter, so I’ve decided that we will do one diameter every week for 5 weeks. Ideally, that would be 30 per day for five straight days with a two-day rest period. Since today is Monday, that would mean that, if we do get in 30 per day, you would have the weekend to give your bottom a rest.”

“Sounds like a plan to me,” said Julie, as she threw away the orange juice jug and washed off the food tray in the sink at the counter. “What do you think, Faith?”

“I suppose,” Faith answered meekly.

“Good. Well then, shall we start? The longer we wait, the less time we have to get all 30 in.” Dr. Jen sat down at her place by Faith’s bottom and opened up the container. Inside were 30 of the 1-inch thermometers.

“I figured we’d do like we did yesterday and go ahead and get the 1-inch ones out of the way first,” she said, as she snapped on some gloves.

Julie went back over to the stool beside Faith’s head. She began to stroke her forehead. Remembering what she had told Dr. Jen yesterday, she whispered to her, “from now on, after your meal, I am going to stroke your forehead the entire day.”

“Thank you. You have no idea how safe that makes me feel,” Faith told her.

Dr. Jen put her finger into the jar of Vaseline. “I’m putting my finger in now.”

She stuck her finger into Faith’s bottom for about 30 seconds, feeling around, and then withdrew it. “No obstructions. Were good to g.”

She then took the first of the 30 thermometers and coated it with Vaseline. “I’m going to insert the thermometer on the count of three. One…two…three.”

She slowly introduced the thermometer into Faith’s anus. Though her eyes were starting to tear up, she remained quiet.

“That’s a good girl, “said Julie. “We will give you a chance to let it out between readings.”

About five minutes later, Dr. Jen announced, “All done with this one”, and slowly extracted it. As soon as it was out, Faith burst out crying.

“Good girl, Faith. Cry it all out,” instructed Julie.

About ten minutes later, she had stopped crying, and Dr. Jen lubed up the next thermometer.

“One…two…three.”

She inserted the second thermometer. Again, Faith started to tear up, but she refrained from crying.

“Just a few more minutes,” assured Julie.

Five minutes after she had inserted the second thermometer, it was taken out, and Faith cried for the next ten minutes.

The routine continued for the next seven hours; Faith would have a thermometer in her butt for five minutes, then she would be given ten minutes to cry it out before another one was inserted. By the time the last one was removed, she was exhausted, and really had to use the bathroom. Dr. Jen got the bedpan out and put it under Faith’s bottom. She urinated, and then Dr. Jen took the bedpan over to the sink and washed it out before putting it back in the cabinet.

“I’ll see you tomorrow for your enema and the next 30 thermometers,” said Dr. Jen, as she exited the room, closing the door behind her.

Faith looked up at Julie, who was still stroking her forehead. “How many passed” she asked in a very tired voice.

“Three of the 30 failed, so 27 of the 30 passed,” Julie answered. “Go to sleep now, you are obviously tired.”

Faith closed her eyes, and Julie continued to stroke her forehead until she was asleep.

The next morning, Julie came in holding the food tray with a plate of food and a glass of V8 splash, and sat on her stool. She set the tray down and started stoking Faith’s forehead. “Wake up, Faith. Time to eat.”

Faith woke up looking at Julie. “Good morning, Faith,” she said, ceasing to stroke her forehead to get the tray. “You hungry?” she asked. Faith nodded, and Julie began to feed her. When she had finished her food and her v8 splash, Julie put the plate and the glass on the tray, took them over to the counter and rinsed them out. Then, she quickly took them across the hall to her room, and came back.

Almost immediately after Julie came back, Dr. Jen came in with the container, which she again set on the tray beside faith’s bottom.

“I need to use the bathroom,” said Faith. Dr. Jen got out the bedpan, and set it in position. Faith went both, and then Dr. Jen took it across the hall to her bathroom to clean it. She then brought it back to the room, and put it back in the cabinet.

Dr. Jen wasted no time getting down to business. Snapping on her gloves, she dipped her finger in the Vaseline while Julie stroked Faith’s head.

Dr. Jen then inserted her finger into her anus, feeling around, then took it out. “Good. You seem to have gotten rid of all the obstructions when you went to the bathroom earlier,” she commented.

She then lubed up the first thermometer. “one…two…three”

Faith closed her eyes, focusing on Julie stroking her forehead. Before she knew it, the 30 thermometers were done.

The same exact routine followed for the next three days with the 1-inch thermometers. Then came the 0.8 inch thermometer week, the 06 inch thermometer week, the 0.4 inch thermometer week, and finally, the 0.2 inch thermometer week. 1 of every 10 thermometers failed inspection.

After the 0.2 inch thermometers were done, Faith was allowed to go home. Her restraints were undone by Dr. Jen, and Julie brought her wheelchair over to the table. Faith hopped down off the table into her chair, and followed Julie out of the testing area and into the waiting room. From there, she continued on home. Little did she know that in about a month, she would be back for another type of testing…
