As I reach down and lift her leg up to place it on the back rest of the chair she sits up as she jams her hands in the center of the robe keeping her mid section covered. I begin to explain that the chairs are the only thing I have the will allow me to examine the same way the gynecologist will but he will use stirrups instead. I also tell her that she can stay seated upright and watch if she likes. I then grab her other foot and place it on the other chair back. I then kneel down on one knee and ask her to remove her hands and robe and to open her knees wide for me.

The robe opens and the knees spread. I reach into my pocket and put on a rubber glove. I then told them to make it a habit to do these checks monthly. I told them that some women prefer to do their self checks just before their periods, others like to wait until after their periods. I said since you get monthly periods it would be a good way to remember when to do the self exams. I then asked them what day of the month were they born on. They said they were born on the 21st, so I suggested the 21st of every month. Then free spirited Amy asks what if they are in the middle of their period on the 21st. I told her it was just a suggestion, they should pick a time frame of the month and do it every month. I then added that since they were twins and I assumed lived in the same room, that from time to time they could check each other out as a second set of eyes.
