Jen starts seeing a fertility doctor, before he any treatments there were test required. First, bloodwork and an ultrasound (yes, an internal one) and then he ordered a HSG through a local hospital. The HSG is a x-ray procedure which determines if the Fallopian tubes are open. It must be scheduled on day 7-10 after your period starts. So the doctors office calls the hospital and then they call Jenn back to set-up the appointment. It was set-up for the following Tuesday at 2 pm.

Now, like most people Jenn starts reading the about the procedure on the internet, which people range with their thoughts of the procedure from mild discomfort to worst than labor pains. She talked with the infertility office about it and they assured her it would be slightly uncomfortable, but there was nothing she should worry about. They offered her some anxiety medication but she refused.

So Tuesday comes and she tells her husband not to worry about the procedure. She plans on having a half day at work. So she leaves at 1 pm to give her enough time to relax and drive to the hospital. She arrives at the local hospital and begins the registration process which seems to take for ever. She pays a co-pay and heads to the radiology department waiting area. Now her nerves are killing her, she begins to wish she would have taken the Valium which the infertility dr, would have prescribed. As she gets to the desk she notices a few people in the waiting area, the national news is on the TV's and the guests are arguing over politics. What relaxing TV she thinks. She goes to the desk and hands the paper from registration to the receptionist.

The perky receptionist hands here a clipboard with a form to fill out. Jenn sits down and begins to fill out the form, standard stuff height, weight, allergies, emergency contacts, etc. She finishes the paperwork and hands it back to the receptionist who then picks up the phone and calls back to the tech. "Have a seat Jen, she will be out shortly." Jenn goes back to her seat and begins to nervously look through a Time magazine. The door opens and Maria the tech calls for Jen. Jen sets the magazine down and heads to the door. What is your birth date? Sept 22, 1985. Maria says, "ok I'm Maria and I'll be your tech, follow me." They travel down a long hallway, and Maria ask Jen when her last period was and when was her last intercourse. Jen, tells her and expected those questions, since the fertility doctor told her they would ask so there was no doubt she was pregnant.

They end up at a small waiting area with three doors and four chairs. Maria, opens the first door which is a changing room and tells her to go in and undress completely except for her bra and put all her items in a pt belonging bag. "Put the opening in the back, and have a seat in one of these chairs." Jen goes into the changing room while

Maria disappears behind the third door which is the x-ray room. Maria gathers all the items necessary for the exam and installs a set of knee holders onto the x-ray table. She also sets up a sterile tray with all the tools which the doctor performing the procedure will need it includes to speculums, a large and a medium, the dye, prep wash and sponges to apply the prep, the catheter to apply the dye into the tubes, and a few other things. She also puts a stool at the foot of the x-ray table for the doctor to sit and gets the battery for the speculum light.

Maria opens the door to find Jen sitting on the chair, and motions for her to come in.

Jen walks into the room and the first thing she notices is the massive knee holders on the table, they are nothing like the stirrups at her other doctors.

"Jen are all your clothes off except for your bra?" Yes, well then have a seat on the table. Jen, first I need to take two normal x-rays.

Jen sits in the middle of the table, trying to adjust the back of her gown. The room and the table are cold. "Ok, I need your legs just be straight and go between the holders for now." Maria adjust the x-ray and takes to shots. They instantly come up on her computer monitor. OK, they are clear, now I just need to look at your pubic hair. Jen suddenly gets embarrassed as Maria picks up the gown and looks at her mons which is full of brown hair and Jen hasn't trimmed in a few weeks. "Jen, I'm going to need to trim around your labia with electric clippers, I'm not going to cut down to your skin just a trim before the doctor gets here."

Jen is mortified.

Maria gets a few towels and the electric clippers from a drawer. Ok, Jen slide down and put your legs into the holders I will help you with that.

Jen slides down the cold table and lifts her left leg into the left holder and repeats the process with the right as Maria adjusts the knee holders. Jen is now on full view for Maria. Maria slides a towel under Jen's butt to catch the clippings of hair.

Jen, apologizes for not trimming.

Maria plugs the clippers in and starts cutting the long, brown pubic hair. Just then the doctor arrives, and comes through a door on the opposite side of the room. Oh, I'm sorry says the male doctor who is in his thirties. He walks over to the control area and puts on a lead gown while Maria finishes up. Jen, is getting wet from the vibrations of the clippers and Maria manipulating her labia during the trimming.

The doctor walks in a introduces himself, "Hi, I'm Dennis. I'm a radiologist and will be performing your exam today.

So Maria, tells Dr Dennis everything is ready and Jen is getting more anxious as this is finally about to happen.

"So Jen, first I'm going to clean your vagina and then I will insert a speculum and find your cervix. Your cervix will be swabbed with a solution to prevent infection and then I will pass through a catheter into your uterus and fill a balloon to prevent the catheter from coming out. We will then take the x-rays which you can watch and you will find out immediately if there are any problems. Any questions for me?"

Jen swallows hard and replies no.

"Ok, Jen there will be some discomfort so bear with me," says Dr Dennis.

The doctor takes the seat on the stool and immediately gets to work wiping down Jen's freshly trimmed labia with the iodine solution which turns her parts brown.

He then picks up the large speculum while Maria comes around and attaches the light pack to keep everything sterile. There is a glob of KY on the tray while the dr runs the tips of the speculum through.

Ok Jen, I'm going to insert the speculum.

Jen closes her eyes and holds here breath as she prepares for the plastic devices to spread her open.

As this is happening another tech named Connie enters the room. Maria then offers her hand for Jen to hold.

Connie asks if there is anything that they need and Dr Dennis replies no, but stay here in case I need you.

Dennis announces he found the cervix and clicks open the speculum wider. He then gets the catheter for the dye and begins to push it through the cervix. Jen gasps in pain. A second later it is through and he fills the balloon with air to prevent it from coming out. Dr Dennis then takes the speculum out carefully and breaks it down into two parts and leaves it on the sterile tray. Ok Jen we are finally going to get your legs out of these holders. Connie and Maria take slide Jen back on the table while Dennis takes the right leg out then Maria takes the left leg out.

Two TV screens light up as the machine is powered on and then positioned over Jen. Jen I'm going to push the dye right now, there will be more discomfort but watch on the screens and you will see the dye flow up the tube hopefully. Jen turns her head towards the screen and the pain hits here as the dye is being pushed. You are doing great Jen is echoed by the staff in the room, the dye fills both tubes normally. They get a few pictures taken from the x-ray machine and tell her that her tubes are normal.

Maria grabs a few towels from a cabinet brings them to the table.

Dennis releases the air from the catheter and instantly there is relief from Jen. Dennis then slowly retracts the catheter and dye spills onto the stable and the sterile pad under Jen's butt.

Dennis then tells Jen she did great and leaves.

Maria tells Jen to rest for a few minutes before getting up. Connie is breaking down and all the supplies.

After a few minutes, Maria hands Jen a towel and tells her to place it under herself when she gets up because some dye will spill out of you. Jen puts here hand down hold then towel under here vagina and stands up. She is assisted by both ladies. Jen here is a few more towels and wash clothes, go to the bathroom and clean yourself up.. The bathroom is accessible by a door from the x-ray room.

Jen walks awkwardly holding a towel under her and goes into the bathroom. She sits on the towel and looks for the first time at her trimmed and iodine covered privates. She tries to pee and some dye comes out and then gets to work with warm water from the sink and soap.

After a few minutes she drys off with a towel and takes her soiled linen back into the x-ray room. Maria asks how the procedure was and Jen her she hopes she doesn't have to did it again.

She then goes to the changing room and gets changed. And reflects on the exam.
