Amy feels like she is about to have a panic attack as she sees the doctor roll on his stool back between her wide open, outstretched legs and bring the brightly lit speculum close to her womanhood. He says “You will first feel me touching you, then you will feel me slowly and gently inserting the speculum. You may feel some pressure, but it shouldn’t hurt.”

Amy feels the doctor parting her labia, then she feels cool, hard plastic touching the entrance to her vagina. She closes her eyes and tries to imagine being anywhere but here, wishing to be doing pretty much anything else other than what she is enduring right now. She winces as she feels the speculum begin its penetration of her virgin vagina, her hips lift a little in a futile attempt to escape the medieval invader, making the table paper crinkle. She already feels stretched out, but the speculum isn’t even open yet……

The doctor says “Now I am going to slowly open the speculum, you may feel more pressure or mild cramping.” Amy keeps her eyes closed as she feels the plastic bills being opened. She curls her glossy nylon covered toes tight, and flexes her glossy nylon covered calves, she hears and feels each loud, plastic sounding click, which makes her tense even more. Finally, after four clicks, the doctor stops, leaving Amy feeling a lot of pressure and discomfort. She has never been opened this much before, the biggest objects she has ever had before this were a finger or a tampon. She feels so stretched out, and she feels a strange, cool sensation inside her wide open vagina, almost like a draft of air.

The doctor moves quickly to visually examine Amy’s vaginal canal and cervix. Satisfied all looks normal, he says “Now for the Pap test. You might feel a slight pinch or cramp as I swab your cervical canal with this little brush.” He holds it up for Amy to see, she opens her eyes just long enough to look. The doctor then looks down and begins taking the sample, making Amy suck in a quick breath at the pinching and cramping sensations as the doctor inserts and rotates the brush in her cervical os. The doctor hands the nurse the brush, she quickly swishes it in the liquid filled cup. The doctor takes the wooden spatula and says “Now for another quick swab, this one from the outer opening of your cervix.” Amy closes her eyes again as the doctor gently scrapes the outer opening of her cervical os. Amy feels a slight scrape, not as bad as how the brush felt. He hands the spatula to the nurse, who then swishes that sample in the liquid filled cup. “Now for the last sample, you likely won’t feel anything from this one” says the doctor. Amy feels nothing as the doctor swabs the area of her vaginal pool at the base of her cervix with the long handled fat Q-tip. He hands that one to the nurse, who swishes the sample in the small, liquid filled vial. The doctor says “You are doing well Miss Melanson, I am going to close and remove the speculum now.”
