Hearing the snap of latex gloves prior to an exam. Knowing that any moment I am going to be intruded.

Being asked to lay back in the dental chair , then having the light directed onto my mouth and being asked to open wide . Knowing they will see inside my mouth

I become nervous as the exam progresses, wondering if it will culminate with a genital exam.

Sitting on the exam table after I finished getting changed, waiting for the doctor to come in.

Def waiting in the waiting room - the anticipation - will I have to strip - will it be a male or female dr - will I get erect - will I end up naked?

I think it's that time after you get undressed and are sitting on the exam table in just a gown waiting for the doctor to come in. I think it's because you're not sure how long it will be and there is not much you can do except sit there and wait.

I agree with redtone: most anxious moment for me is before injections. Just seeing the syringe and wondering how much will it hurt ... And even more anxious I'm just before the injection, just after the injection spot was cleaned with alcohol and before the needle is inserted.

Most anxious moment for me is sitting on the exam table waiting for the nurse to come in with syringe and wondering if the shot is going to be in the arm or butt.

Waiting in the waiting room before the exam on arriva

I don't think that is strange at all, I had my share of childhood maladies and vividly remember the smells, instruments, tables in our small town Doctors office. I particularly remember some concern about descending testicles, and some pulling and prodding and rather harsh manipulation as the Doctor visited with my mother, I was probably 10 or so at the time.

Definitely many things can be anxious and exciting. From childhood exams definitely the time between mother telling me I was about to have an exam and when I eventually walked to the waiting room and sat there with other kids and their mothers waiting to be called in.
Hearing the snap of latex gloves is another one. From the same childhood exams I remeber being on my back on the exam table only panties on and then at one point the doc picking up a pair of latex gloves from a box on a tray cart next to the exam table. My heart took probably a few extra beats, it was like a sign that NOW it is going to happen. Since I was 11 I knew it will happen but it still felt quite special to hear her snapping those on and know that in matter of seconds my panties would be down. Still today snapping gloves on gives me shivers even if it's just dentist who does that, strange me..

The pre-exam parts such as waiting in the waiting room; having the nurse call me back and tell me to undress; then waiting in my underwear for the doctor to come in

Waiting in the waiting room, for my 1st GYNO exam at 16 years old!!!

Waiting in the waiting room, I'm not especially patient LOL, and a close second would be the blood pressure check. I have hypertension and white coat syndrome, so it is never a very good reading. So the anxiety created by having my pressure taken becomes a vicious circle of sorts, since being anxious usually results in a higher than normal reading.

It would definitely be waiting in the waiting room, not knowing when it'll be your turn...

It has to be waiting for the exam for me - the anticipation can be a killer, plus it's when the mind starts to get carried away with you... The snap of the latex gloves is more exhilarating as far as I'm concerned, especially when the doc or nurse is particularly attractive!

Waiting in the exam room, esp if it is a new doctor. You have no idea what is about to happen

Waiting is always anxiety producing...even more so with nothing or little on!

Waiting alone in an examination room while I hear the doctor next door talking to his patient about the proceedure he is about to do.

choosinwhite 12 years ago
It must be sitting on the table (half-naked) while waiting for the doctor to appear. Especially so if it's the first time I'm meeting the doctor!

Waiting to meet the doctor for the first time. Not knowing if we are going to click, or if he will be just plain creepy! :)

m1943 12 years ago
It must be waiting in the reception area for me.
My examination never seems to take place on time.
As nurses come out, they never seem to come to me to say that the doctor is ready for me.
Waiting to drop my trousers is certainly less stressful.

Erica23 12 years ago
Exactly the same. What would be more anxious and exciting than be undressed and wait the moment when you should come in and show yourself to a doctor. You never gonna know what's going to happen next.

As i need waiting in the cabin were i do undressing from the waist down to my turn is coming for the exam.

FOR ME IT IS WATCHING THE NURSE OR THE DOCTOR SNAPPING ON A PAIR OF GLOVES. THEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO BE TOUCHED IN YOUR PRIVET AREA.

The most anxious part for me is anticipating an injection in my bottom. It begins from the time I make the appointment and increases in the waiting room, especially if I don't know whether or not I will get one. When the nurse prepares the injection and tells me to pull down my pants and bend over, I feel extremely anxious and even more so when waiting bare-bottomed in position to get it. The height of anxiety is feeling the alcohol swab back there because I know that the shot is imminent and there is nothing I can do to avoid it.

I'm most anxious when I'm waiting...either in the waiting room, or after I'm taken back to the exam room. I just hate sitting there waiting. I think the worst is when I'm taken back to the exam room and after the nurse does her preliminaries, she tells me to undress and leaves. I'm then sitting there totally nude (usually with just a paper drape) waiting for the doctor to come in, wondering what she will do to me, how the exam will go, etc. Once she comes in and the exam starts, I usually relax.

for sure when the you feel the doctor's hand in your waist band

I recently went to get birth control and did not know if the doctor was going to examine me or not, but I was waiting in an examining room with stirrups. This made me extremely anxious.

girl71 14 years ago
I would say, not always being sure what to take off, clothes wise (but I usually ask).
The worst for me is actually the smell of alcohol and other disinfectants. makes me nauseous every time.
But the worst is sitting or lying there with the doctor getting stuff ready or doing whatever in the room, not saying anything. It makes me tense. Then if he immediately starts doing stuff to me without saying anything or expaining, it really makes my heart pound.
if something painful is about to be done, that takes things to a whole new level.

The waiting has to be the most difficult for me. You are anticipating what is about to happen, and it keeps going over and over in your mind, until it finally happens.

Baraja 14 years ago
It was difficult to vote just one. The exam itself is, of course, the most anxious but also anticipation before it in a waiting room is very exciting. I can't help thinking how much do I have to undress after I have been called in and do I have to undress in front of a doctor or nurse.
In conclusion of this I voted "Other".

user264 14 years ago
I voted other.
Waiting on the exam table, while wearing nothing but a gown, for the Doctor to arrive. I always wonder what they have planned and why I had to take off all my clothes.

I hate patient waiting rooms. I have a very vivid imagination and I tend to make guesses as to what brought other people in to see the doctor. ("Hmmm... He looks thin, pale... Weak immune system. Maybe he has bone cancer. What if I have bone cancer? Boy, I bet that would suck...") The longer I'm in the room, the more I do this and the worst the anxiety gets, waiting to find out if I'm dying from something. Of course, the minute the nurse starts weighing me and doing blood pressure, etc, all of that is forgotten and I'm fine again.
The only time I hear the snap of the gloves is before the genital & rectal exam. Whatever I am feeling then, I'm pretty sure it's not anxiety...

Apart from tduring the exam procedures themselves, i believe there are other moments which can be anxious and/or exciting. Am I correct, and if so what might those moments be?
