When I was growing up, it was common to give children enemas when they were sick before a decision was made that a doctor's appointment was needed. When I was feeling sick, my mother would have me put on my pajamas, and she would come into my bedroom and place a large folded towel on the edge of the bed.
She would then have me take off my pajamas and lay on my left side with my bottom facing her. She would first put a cool wet wash cloth on my forehead, and then she would put rubbing alcohol all over my body as I was laying there to cool me down. This was followed by taking my temperature with a rectal thermometer which always felt cold to me. She would then give me a series of enemas with a large enema syringe, and she would rub my stomach area when giving me the enemas..
She would then observe me in the bathroom when expelling the enema, and sometimes she repeated the giving of enemas with the enema syringe. She would either use Epsom salts or a mild white soap in the warm water when giving an enema. I always felt vulnerable and became very passive when receiving enemas, something that I still experience when I am given enemas as an adult. I am curious as to what others experienced when given enemas when they were sick.
