Stethoscope Use

Hey All,

I was just wondering today being that I haven't gone to many more than a GP for the most part of my life. What type of doctor visits have you all been on where they did and did not use a stethoscope.

For me urgent cares seem to always use it, my GP for anything cold related or physicals and an allergist. Besides I can't think of any others.

Cardiologists are obviously heavy auscultators, and pneumonologists (lung specialists) also auscultate at length. An ex girlfriend was examined with a stethoscope at the tail end of a gynecologist visit, but at least where I live this isn't common practice.

I was surprised to see a stethoscope lying around on my shoulder specialist's desk, and wondered what situations he'd use it in.

I once went to a chiropractor who had a stethoscope hanging up very prominently in her consulting room. Sadly she never saw fit to use it on me...

It's a pity but it is expected that stethoscope will be less and less used in the cabinets. Cheaper handheld ultrasound devices do the job better..

One of the most unexpected doctor with steth was my dentist...he used the steth on the side of my face in order to hear if there was some tooth in clash with my cheeck opening the mouth... :-)
