I have not had good luck with foreign doctors here at all.
They are everywhere and I am sure most of them are great, perfect, good doctors and friendly, but not so much in my corner of the world.
The first foreign doctor I encountered here was when my youngest was 4. She suddenly put on a bunch of weight, even though she was very active. Our doctor sent us to a specialist who was a pediatric endocrinologist. Which at the time where we lived meant taking the entire day off work because he was a solid 2 hour drive from us. On the way in I had to give them my insurance cart and pay 250 dollars. We waited in the waiting room for a good hour. We got to the exam room and in a minute the doctor came in. He looked at the notes from my doctor, he took one look at my daughter and asked me if she had grown any during the last year. I said yes, about 4 inches. Then he said, okay, children with thyroid issues don't grow, she's fine. And out he walked. Guess what, she does and did at that time have a thyroid problem. Idiot!
The next foreign doctor, same child got into an accident on our street. We thought she broke her leg so we went to the ER. There was no break but there was an issue. Again we were sent to a specialist. I don't know which types of folks all wear the turbans on their head as I am sure there are more than a few religions or races. But he was an Indian guy I believe. He examined her, decided there was a hair line/green stick fracture. She couldn't walk and she was 6. I asked him about putting her on crutches. He said, "we don't put babies on crutches". He suggested we carry her around. He was a bit rough with her and he hurt her. His name was I believe Dr Sidhu. So from that point on we would tease here and tell here that we were going to take here to see Dr. Habadobadobido, lol. and she would get mad at us, lol. Again, Idiot!
Next I was working at a place where both of the house doctors were foreign. The one doctor here was one of the nicest guys I have ever met, and one of the best doctors I have ever known. I seriously would have made him my doctor in a heartbeat if I needed to see one locally at the time. The other doctor was probably the biggest asshole I have ever met. He was Korean and was very tall for a Korean like over 6 foot. He was just a real dick and he wasn't a good doctor. He and I used to go rounds all the time. He had issues with women especially ones that would not treat him like he was a God or the king. Yes, I so did not. I hated him and he me, but I had to respect his position and I did, but that doesn't mean I have to do what he tells me to do or even follow his doctors orders. We got into a huge verbal argument over the phone one day because he had written an order for Morphine that was a dose probably about 5 times more than what it took to kill my patient. I refused to administer that dose, and called him to get a clarification. He screamed at me for 10 minutes telling me that he was the doctor and I was just a nurse and I had to do what he said and follow his orders no matter what. Ummm, no I absolutely do not have to do anything he says if in my medical judgement is not appropriate or safe. It's called nursing judgement and that gives me the latitude to do what I think is best for my patients. He told me he would have me fired for not following his orders. His ego got in the way of his ability to listen to what I was trying to tell him and what was safe and what his mistake was. Had I administered the dose he wrote in the order my patient would have died. I was very very close to turning him into his board as an abusive physician, which I never thought I would do in leu of the event.
So, those are my experiences with the foreign doctors. Given my track record, I really just would rather not deal with them if I don't have to.
