Yes I wear diapers in public ,as I have for 27 + years ,since I am in a power wheelchair no one certainly can see them ,but people assume everybody in wheelchairs uses diapers ,which is wrong many people in wheelchairs use the toilet proudly or have supra pubic catheters ,or mitranoff etc ,sure people who have an spinal injury are sent to rehab and post injury we are all suppository and diaper trained ,many times post injury recovery of function happens over 3-4 years and they recover continence ,now I only wear onesies and special pants that will hide a pretty massive diaper( I wear a super heavy weight nite diaper for full coverage with double liner to sleep in you wouldn't know it by looking ) but its not the csamoflauge of the diaper that matters ,it's that my aide can do all personal care including a diaper change without undressing me naked or having to remove my pants, this serves a dual purpose diaper changes as well as easy emergency access to my rectum to administer medication to stop a seizure. All my family and friends know I use diapers and strangers expect me to be diapered (I don't disappoint )
Incontinence is a mostly hidden disability, diapers are a reasonable accomodation of that disability ,same as eyeglasses, crutches, wheelchairs, hearing aides . Many physical disabilities are hidden would anyone know I have heart failure, epilepsy or diabetes ,not until the medication or SYRINGES come out . I proudly admit to diaper use to anybody who asks , that is a "teachable moment" to introduce Incontinence as just an ordinary health problem and
Not some "embarrassing secret " it takes a kind responsable person to wear & use diapers, forget that it keeps you protected, it keeps everyone else's stuff protected .diapers control & contain excrement ,horses donkeys elephants monkeys wear them without stigma or being self conscious ,so why cant we ?i
