In the Hellenized and Roman world of Antiquity it was extremely bad form to expose the glans in public. It was uncouth and the sign of a barbarian. In athletic games, most notably the Olympic Games, or when exercising, athletes were nude (one of the reasons why married freewomen were not allowed to attend such games). They used a string or a thin belt called a kynodesme in Classic Greek to tie up the foreskin so it would not become exposed during games or competitions.

Interesting to think something like this might ever come back into custom. Especially if, as explained in the text above, a kynodesme were attached to a belt around the waist which would expose the scrotum to view ... isn't it wonderful and comical at the same time how cultures come up with all these different customs? I think my husband only washed his foreskin in group showers if he could do it privately so nobody would have seen his foreskin pulled back or that he was washing it. If he couldn't do it he would wait until he got home and have a bath or a shower then. He says he and his mum were nudists at home and there was no privacy for anything at all. That's right. Moderation in all things apparently ... though I believe that while Classical Hellenes thought thin and more tapered penises to be the most esthetically pleasing, Romans had a more pronounced preference for thicker members - not that anyone could do much about it in real life 😃 But you're right about depiction in statuary and in paintings and frescoes. Look up Pompeian frescoes - it needn't even be erotic frescoes since so many Gods and heroes were depicted nude anyway - take a look for yourself.

In a modern aside, fictional but still interesting, in the series 'Rome' in several episodes, references are made to the perceived vulgarity of a large penis. I'll agree that 95% of the time nudism isn't a sexual endeavor for me. Wife and I like to be nude or semi-nude whenever it's practical. When we are alone in the house for the most part. We have two kids in their late teens still at home who would prefer some modesty from their parents, especially our son. My wife doesn't care to comply with his preferences much of the time. I do, but I don't bother to cover up if I need to get a towel from another room or change my clothes in the camper, that sort of thing. Nudity is rather incidental to my concurrent activity for the most part. I never saw my parents just hanging around nude, but they were never hung-up about walking through the house nude when necessary, and they were quite vanilla from my perspective. So it never really "got old" for me, more like it was "old" from the start.

That being said, I still get some excitement, mostly mental but sometimes physical, around the societal taboos surrounding nudity. I like to go outside in the summer nude; we have a rather secluded rural home. Especially when I first started to do so I felt a bit aroused being in the great outdoors in the buff. Not so much any more, but it still does seem a step different than hanging around inside in my birthday suit. Something about consciously stepping across the threshold in a state that most of society might consider inappropriate.

On another note, I do like to cook in the nude so long as I'm not frying something splattery like bacon. Right indeed. Over-sized phalluses (phalli?) were painted or carved and put by doors or entrance-ways for good luck or to ward off malicious spirits. Or worn as charms. I’m now getting quite relaxed about group nudity and quite used to it, but even so I am aware that I still notice the 5-10% minority of guys who have something of interest about their genitals, like overly large, or unusually small, or in terms of my own UK hang-up, if they are circumcised. What this means is that without being deliberate or even knowing it, my peripheral vision must be scanning everyone, & just making me aware only of items of particular interest. No Sten if we do go to Spain again and I do go full nude it will be just us. We like it to just be the 2 of us when we go on holiday and there have been times when we have met other couples and socialised with them but it is just us most times. I'm a big fan of being nude. Have been for about as long as I can remember. Also have been fortunate to find ladies throughout my life that felt the same way. I've never found that it led to a diminution of sexual desire, but rather increased it. I've had friends whose houses were "clothing optional" and always exercised the option there. When I've had sufficient privacy on property the GF and I would walk naked in the woods or relax on the deck. I'm single now, but nude in the house most of the time. As others have pointed out, don't fry bacon in the nude...and don't attempt to work in the shop.

As several member have already stated, being naked is for me about being comfortable and has nothing to do with sexual arousal or the attractiveness or lack thereof of anybody else that may be naked in a group setting!

Although most nudist groups would disagree, my wife and I find nudity to be stimulating. We are able to be nude whenever we are at home, and we both enjoy the ability to see and touch each other, whenever. For us, this leads to a very active sex life. I doubt we would be nearly as active if we were clothed. So, for us it is a continual turn-on. Social nudity, involving groups of people, does not have the same allure.

My husband and I are nude most of the time when we are at home. A number of our friends know we are home nudist and visit beaches that are clothing optional. They are as comfortable as we are when they visit us and we stay naked. A few of them have joined us in being nude when we meet at each others home. My husband finds it very exciting to see me nude.

Never get tired of being nude we want our skin to have fresh air and not smothered in clothing all day long.Many of our female friends can't wait to get home and get their bras off.We have forty wonderful years of marriage.

My hubby and I simply find nudism at home to be very relaxing and very comfortable. We are not public nudists (e.g. no clothes optional beaches, clothes-free clubs, stuff like that), and only my sister and her husband know of our personal private activity.

Does it get old ... maybe someday it will ... maybe it won't. But at this point in our lives, while residing in our rural 'estate' which provides us shielding from the public eye, we find this at-home lifestyle to our liking.

We dress or undress, whichever term you prefer, for the outdoor season, but our indoor clothing seldom changes ... mostly, we prefer to be in the buff indoors all year around.

How do we 'dress' when we have guests ... we are textile during those times .... what they don't know about our lifestyle won't hurt us ... and we appreciate our friends.
