I've seen this from every side - I've worn 24/7 for need and fun, as a child, an adolescent as an adult. I slowly developed urinary and bowel incontinence over the last couple of years, so that's why I wear now.
You develop better hygiene. When it was just a diaper a week, I wouldn't use powder, lotion or wipes, and I might not use baby wipes when changing. These days I do, and I keep my crotch shaved and pay special attention to my diaper area when washing. I also use gloves when changing, and make sure to double bag (I might have single bagged before).
Your dress sense changes. My dress sense started loosening up when I was completely continent and during the time that I was just wearing for wetting - I mean, realistically, you can probably fit any disposable diaper under any pair of jeans, but it's not going to necessarily be comfortable, and if your diaper is squashed or has seams cutting into it, it won't be as functional (which is important when you are increasingly requiring that function). Now that I have messing problems, literally everything I own is ridiculously loose because the shape of a messy butt, even in boot-cut jeans, is very obvious. I also own a lot of one-piece pyjamas, because two-piece pyjamas tend to slip down or off.
Your taste in diapers changes. When I was wearing casually, and for at least a year and a half when I was 24/7, I preferred discretion. Over time, though, you figure out that actually, if you're gonna have a puffy butt anyway, you might as well wear thick diapers. The thinnest diapers I still regularly wear are Abena M3s and they're usually boosted. For the last month I've been in ABU LittlePawz and I love them.
