I had inguinal hernia repair surgery several years back which took a pretty good size incision. My surgery was delayed a few times until my normal condition was pretty painful, it had actually started pushing into my sack and bulging in front. Surgery was as an outpatient, in at 7:00 a.m. and out by noon. First day was great, I was at home, really good drugs I wasn't feeling a thing. Second day, I thought I was going to die—the drugs wore off and I started popping pain killers like mad. Third day thereon stuff got better.
Probably biggest surprise was the bruised groan. My cock was black as hell and so was my sack—and very swollen. I got my regular boner every morning, which was sort of painful against the incision. I was shaved very bare—from my belly button down. That was a surprise as they did it when I was out.
A suggestion given me by a neighbor, wear a jock strap for a couple of months. I usually wear boxers, so I tried tighty whities first—they didn't help. Every time I took a step those babies banged around, still swollen and black and blue, I was about down on my knees. I put on a jock strap and wore it until maybe 3 months after the surgery, which took care of most of the pain. You may want to try that, see if it helps you.
Something I wasn't warned about is a somewhat chronic condition that is caused by some inguinal hernia surgery. I had hernia repair surgery that required an internal mesh. It seems to have worked well, the only down side is that the cord to my testicle was stitched to the mesh. The pain is similar to what some men experience with a vasectomy where one side of the vas is not left open. After seeing a few doctors consensus is that it is nothing I was doing but just that pressure builds up from the vas being closed down from the stitches to hold the cord in place with the mesh. It is periodic and has become less often over time. When it was bad a urologist I saw wanted to basically try what he did for men with chronic vasectomy pain. He would go in and in this case cut below the stitches and open one end of the vas. He had never done it for hernia pain but said the issue was the same. I never had it done because by that time, about 2 years after the surgery, the pain was not as bad. Also I really didn't want to go through the hassle of surgery again.
Something else that urologist told me is that depending upon the method of surgery, like mine, you are likely shooting blanks on that side afterwards. Stitching into cord has good chances of blocking it which was indicated by my pain. After he told me that I did an internet search and found with bilateral surgery, which is the only way they can check since you don’t know which testicle the sperm is coming from, there was a relatively high rate of sterility. Once again that was a several years ago and depends on the type of surgery they performed. Interesting that no one mentioned this to me before. My wife told me since I had flaked out on a vasectomy a few years earlier I should have the surgery to relieve the pain and have both sides cut—two birds with one stone. But like I said I didn't opt for it.
