OK, you seem sincere, so here goes with a straight answer.
Supers are very nice and comfy, like Tx said the tapes seem to hold better, maybe because there is less to hold. They leak every time on the third serious wetting, and sometimes when you sit down after the second serious wetting. You say "half-full then let go" so you might make it to 4 to 6 times before they leak.
Extras make it to 4 plus wettings with no leaks. Very nice diaper, very comfortable.
X-Pluses are very bushy. Comfortable, too, esp after the first wetting, after which they mold to your personal body shape very nicely. The tapes sometimes do unexpectedly give out, which can be very inconvenient. But for absorbancy and leak-free confidence, they are hard to beat.
At night, I wear X-Plus with a Abri-Let booster, normal "briefs" underwear over the diaper, then Suprima plastic pants over that, then a pair of lycra enhanced boxers over all.
I often add a layer of tape over the top nappy tapes for security. Had the tape give out on me one night when I rolled over with fairly unacceptable consequences!
That much nappy and pants results in a very cosy fit, and, most importantly, a little bit of absorbency from the underwear outside the diaper-inside the plastic pants. Disposables tend to leak a little bit at night, just from the fact you are in a prone position. Wetness tends to end up under the side panels where there is no absorbant material, then find it's way to the surface, and then to your mattress. It is not like it is a major leak, but even a tablespoon or pee on your bed = extra laundry. Layering like this works 95%+ of the time for me. Plastic pants with no absorbent layer between the diaper and the plastic pants does not solve the problem - it just takes a bit longer for the pee to find its way to your mattress.
So, buy all 4: Super, Extra, X-Plus and Abrilet. They all have a useful place, and you'll learn what youwant to wear at any time to manage comfort, discretion, and security with how easy it will be to change your nappy.
