Nurses and erections

I sure most nurses have seen male patients get erections on occasion during an exam or procedure. I wonder how they react or if they say or do anything about it when they occur.

I have an aunt who was an "old school" nurse who is now retired but worked as an RN in hospitals during the 60s and 70s. Recently when I was visiting her I asked her if she ever missed her days working in a hospital taking care of sick people all day. She told me she did miss certain aspects of the job but one thing she didn't miss was when she had to deal while as she called them "fresh" men. I asked her what she meant by that and she matter of factly told me that she did not like it when she had to take care of a guy when he had an erection. I pressed her for more details and she told every once in awhile she had to deal with a male patient that was fully erect when she was tending to him. Most of these men were not too sick, usually in for some minor surgery or injury so they were in pretty good health for the most part. She told me she found them to be lewd and disgusting but she had a way to taking care of the issue so she could go about her nursing duties without the distraction. When I asked her what she did she smiled and said that she would grab hold of the erect penis with one hand and then then with her other hand take her thumb and middle fniger and thwack the guy's testicles one time to each ball, She said that would almost always immediatley make the erection go down. and the guy would behave himself from that point on. She said the pained expression on their faces was priceless!

She must have been VERY old school and a major prude. The proper thing to do is ignore it and not say anything unless the patient expresses concern or embarrassment, in which case, reassurance is the order of the day. If I had been taking care of the patient and got to know him well, I might, say something like "I see you're feeling better today" if I had developed a good rapport with him. Flicking their penis or testicles is just horrible bedside manner. If anyone did that to my husband, I would make a complaint to the hospital. Some men get erect very easily and it has nothing to do with bad behavior.

The fact that you stated the men were usually NOT very sick also explains the ease of their erections. If a 75 year old guy got erect easily after a Whipple I would be shocked. I would not be surprised with a patient in reasonably good health in the hospital for a minor procedure.

Yeah, I totally agree, she should never do someting like this. Besides, testicles are just too sensitive for such 'treatment'... And erections are something natural, nothing to be ashamed off. I'm glad that this nurse is already reitred.

I have never had a patient get an erection while I was working with him and I'm glad of it. If it happened I might just say "Nice Equipment" and leave it at that. Most guys will not be upset by that comment.

Trust me, I know there are a lot of gay guys out there. EVERYONE has at least a cousin who is gay and I'm heteroflexible, so I can easily relate to it.

I have had my fair share of patients who have had erections over my many years as a nurse too. When I was a new nurse, I will openly admit that it used to embarrass me a little even though I had seen many many penis' by that point, been married for years, and already had 2 kids, lol. Ahhhh the days of innocents, lol.

But soon enough it sort of became old hat so to speak. When it happens the guys are usually embarrassed too, especially if they see that you are embarrassed. There were only a few times when the guys were rude about it though and said something like, "if you like what you see I can give you my number and when I get out of here maybe we can go out to dinner....." or something along those lines. But like I said, that only happened a very few times.

I always ignored it and if they mentioned it then I would react. I would always assure them that it was normal and no big deal. All of them were very thankful I believe that I didn't react. I can't say that I have ever made a non professional comment about one of my patients erections, but then I also have never taken care of someone I had a relationship with outside of my nursing job.

When I used to teach massage therapy, I often had young female students think this or whacking the penis was the thing to do. It's not. Striking a patient who isn't attacking you is called assault and battery. It will get you arrested.

There's no way in HELL I'd EVER let a nurse get a way with that sort of treatment. Ever. Just like a nurse has every right to confront a rude or disorderly patient, a patient also has the right to confront a rude or disorderly nurse.

I would tell her right away that I did nothing wrong, and that her behavior was inappropriate, unprofessional, unnecessary, and constitutes assault. And I would warn her that if she ever did something like that again, I would report her to her supervisor, hospital administration, and the local authorities. If she attempted to retaliate later, I would document each incident and present it, under oath, to the medical board and / or civil court. I'd make her life hell. I'm a fair, decent, reasonable guy, but I am NOT the sort of person to fuck with.

I'm sorry to sound so angry, but the actions of that nurse are just another ugly example of the misanthropic attitudes, male bashing, and body shame that have become far too prevalent in modern society. And I'm just sick and tired of it. I'm fed up. If a nurse was providing intimate care for me and I sprouted wood, I wouldn't say a word. I'd just keep my mouth shut and let her do her job. But APOLOGIZE??? Be ASHAMED or GUILTY because I'm fortunate enough to have a body that still works the way that God and nature intended??? I REFUSE to feel or express shame and remorse for being a normal, healthy human. Fuck that shit.

If a nurse can't deal with an occasional erection without anger or disgust, let her go sell used cars or something. She has no business being in medicine.

I would really hope that the retired nurse was simply putting you on ... you know, maybe telling you something she had read in an SM or femdom story or something, something to ´shock´ a younger person or to show how she could imitate a sergeant-major or how she was a woman of the world, in control of things or something along those line ... because this does sound like something out of an erotic story, a nurse or nanny correcting a naughty boy ... fun in fiction, not in real life unless as part of role playing.

But then again if true, well ... it´s all been said rather extensively in other posts below. Way, way unprofessional and unacceptable behavior for someone of that profession. Though when it would come to reporting it, it would be word against word I suppose ...

And this reminds me that while no nurse has ever treated me in this manner, once when getting a testicular ultrasound, and being told to undress, the attending nurse certainly gave me some very dirty and disapproving looks that I interpreted as a warning not to try any funny stuff - no joking, no showing off, no erections ... something along those lines I then thought. Nothing untoward happened - on neither my part nor hers - but I did see her as capable of putting an erect guy down by her looks alone.

I'm not in agreement with ILuvLadyDocs I've been fortunate not to have an inappropriate erection other than a very minor reaction when being examined by my sister-in-law recently but if I did I'd feel it appropriate to make some sort of apology without directly referring to it something like 'I'm sorry I seem to be embarrassing myself' and would hope she would reassure me with something like 'don't worry it happens sometimes I know it's not intentional'.

As for making a complaint or threatening to report a nurse I think something very extreme would have to happen before I'd consider doing anything like that, I'm sure I wouldn't need to say any more than something like 'that really wasn't necessary, you should know we can't always control these things and it's not in your honour'.

How do you define an 'inappropriate' erection? I taught my students that the only inappropriate erection was one with inappropriate INTENT. Men can get an erection because the breeze is coming from the right instead of the left. Without intent, you have nothing more inappropriate in an erection than from erect nipples, goose flesh or a fart. Bodies exhibiting physiologically normal reflexes are never inappropriate.

I'm sorry but I find this topic humorous. Everyone beating up on an elderly nurse for something she did 40 years ago. Hey, some guys would pay to have their balls flicked! It's no worse than getting beat up by the nuns in grammar school.

Well ... the nurse who oversaw my prep for the ultrasound may have had a distrust of how some men might conduct themselves or what they might try to do (deliberately provoke an erection perhaps?) ... or maybe she´d had one joker too many thinking his equipment was God´s gift to women ... who knows?

But to be fair, I didn´t notice any hatred, anger or fear ... nothing of that sort that I could discern at any rate. Only the sort of look you´d get from say a teacher/nun at the beginning of a school year to impress they weren´t going to take any funny stuff, or maybe from a drill sergeant at the beginning of military training. A look to show who was in charge and that no funny stuff would be accepted.

She nastily thwacked the guy's balls! That's pretty danged extreme, I think. She committed a crime in most jurisdictions, a violation of virtually any hospital's policy, and a really rude thing to do. She richly earned being reported.

I m not a nurse but work ( and trained) as a heath care assistant and in nursing home I often had men getting an erection whilst I washed them. I usually covered them with a towel ( when given bed baths) or if it happened whilst he was in the bath I just ignored it. I figured it was more embarrassing for them then it was for me. I woul only ever reply if the man in question tried to whip the towel away, I just said nothing I haven't seen before, place the towel back and resumef my duties. All part if a days work esp when working on the dementia ward.

Pretty nurses or not, I hope I NEVER end up in one of those wretched senior care facilities. If I ever got to the point where I could barely even bathe myself, I'd rather go out like Hunter S.Thompson.

I have been in the hospital five times in the last 15 years. In each case the nurses save one have been very good. The only exception was a male nurse, who was a real horses ass. The hospital did take care of the problem promptly. Except for him the nurses were above and beyond. Without competent nurses people my age (early 70's) would be SOL. When the doctors are done slicing and dicing nurses are the path to recovery. Bless them because they put up with horses asses like me.

Also, "enlightened" folks will go to court to stop you. Make plans and redundant plans. Enlist the aid of friends whom you know that you can trust. Don't just ask any friend, be sure that they will cooperate and not turn you in to the "authorities."

Another plan is to have a gun, but not tell anyone of your plans to use it.

If you are incapacitated and in a nursing facility, make plans to go home for "a visit" before it's too late so you can perform your deed.

She said the preferred method was to lift the penis, and 'snap' the thumb and forefinger against the sensitive underside of the head.. (Don't tell your wife, GF, or SO. One of my female High School classmates went on to Nursing School. In a general round-robin chat session with others, the question arose as to what to do about erections. These individuals (doctors nurses PA's NP's) are in the medical field. Guess what, kids? I a MAN and I am going to get an erection when my genitals are subject to an examination because that is the way god built me. I have had a female doctor for several years now. She accepts this and would probably be concerned if I at least did not become at least semi erect during said examination. I am respectable about the situation at hand (no pun intended) and as such I demand the same level of respect. The day any medical professional commits battery on my genitals is the day that person would feel my steel toed boot in their ass. Anyone (male or female) who chooses medicine as a career better get used to the fact that at some point in time they may face having to inspect male genitalia and If they cannot deal with this then they should consider employment as a carnival worker.

Strangely enough, I remained completely flaccid during both my penile exam and my testicular ultrasound.

If I had an erection during a procedure and any medical staff did that, I would request immediately for that person to be replaced by a more competent one and file a complaint. If they can't deal with natural reactions, they should not be in that field.

I don´t know how Hunter S. Thompson went out (and where I am now i can´t access the Internet that easily to check - searches take like for-ev-er) but I´m guessing it was messy and extravagant and something manly and violent. Not that pleasant for the people left after to process, let alone clean up ...

Far better if you live in a country that, in certain broadly defined situations and conditions, let´s you choose on your own the time and place of your painless passing with competent medical help. I was present at one a few months ago, something I didn´t look forward to at all, But after it was over, it just reinforced my thoughts on the subject, which was also that never ever would I care to end up in a care facility either. And that there are some very wonderful and competent doctors who will assist out of understanding and compassion. That, as opposed to doctors who wish nothing more than to get you into a care facility and then milk you for all it´s worth.
