When having a full weekend enema series, if I had planned ahead, I would use a full catheter kit! The kind that has the catheter, storage bag 2000ml capacity, insertion lube syringe, inflation syringe, gloves, etc.
Before starting the enemas, I would do a clean insert of my 16fr foley, then attach the bedside collection bag. Which was carried around, by hooking it onto my bathrobe belt. Otherwise it was hung on the bedside mattress handle. Emptied when it got heavy, of course.
This was especially useful, since we all know the colon absorbs water from the enema, and running in to pee all the time, especially at night is a pain. At the end of the weekend, after drinking lots of fluids, I would remove the catheter. By having consumed fluids I could pee a lot right away, getting through the pain of first urination, which is always a down side of catheter usage. Makes the whole experience have a new dimension. 😳
