I support agracier's piece on public nudism in Europe.
He refers to nudism in Spain particularly. I started to go to Spain on holiday in the early 70's, when General Franco ruled with an iron hand in what was a military dictatorship.
Even though Spain rapidly became a popular holiday destination many found themselves in trouble, at the point of a gun, for indecency. Topless was banned as were two piece bathing suits. Even one piece suits (on men as well) had to have a (very) short skirt in the genital region - no bulges there then! And it was only on the beaches and by hotel swimming pools - if you went off the beach you had to wear at least a robe.
Displays of affection, kissing in public for instance was also a no no, as I once nearly found to my cost.
Following Franco's death in 1975 Spain became a monarchy under King Juan Carlos and, literally within months, all of those restrictions no longer applied, though there was never any official lifting of them. Now, as agracier says, there is frequent full nudity on specific sites and topless is nearly universal on the beaches.
agracier is right too, about our temperatures here, though southern European countries such as Spain and Italy enjoy better weather year round. Germany is probably an exception in that they will go naked, but in areas defined by signs on approach routes saying that you are entering an FKK area ( Free Body Culture) - but they are mainly open to the public, even fully dressed.
