Susie,
You have described the Colon Hydrotherapy experience with excellence. My first colonic came in 1978 when my then employer sent me to New York City to do a trade show. I had been reading about the procedure in nursing texts and every other source that I could acquire by the beg, borrow, steal or buy method. By then I was 36 years old and had taken enemas for over thirty years, both supervised and after I was ten or so, self administered.
My first and subsequent irrigations came as a result of that trade show. The first night after the show closed I looked in the telephone directory for "colon irrigations" and found a firm that sold irrigation pipe. That didn't sound quite right that a Hydrotherapist would use a three inch diameter speculum! Undaunted, I continued on and I looked under Chiropractors and Bingo! The Chiropractors were doing colonics. I called one of them and set up my appointment. I arrived at the office a bit early and just before noon with knocking knees and feelings of anticipation and dread. I was met by a receptionist who directed me to the colonic room. An older lady greeted me at the room and showed me the Dierker equipment and directed me to don a hospital gown that opened in the back.
The Dierker irrigator was mounted on a modified kitchen table which also served as the client table. It was explained that this equipment was made by a manufacturer who had been out of business for some time, 15 years or more. When Dr. Chiropractor found it, it had a broken glass reservoir and a new one was made by a glass blower. When the new glass arrived and put in place, it was once again a complete gravity system. It was time to begin.
The dowager practicioner helped me up onto the table and placed me in the Sims position. She then showed me the Bakelite spec and told me that it had been sanitized and autoclaved. Li ke the modern ones, it had two ports. One was for the inlet of water and the other was a waste discharge. The two rubber hoses were attached and the speculum was lubricated and inserted. I remember how apprehensive I was when I observed the size of the speculum and knew where it was going. Then a minute or two later it had been slid into place and it felt mysteriously good. The glass reservoir was then filled with water and air bubbles, while a floating thermometer rose with the water level to the top.
After the thermometer was checked for the proper water temperature, the valve was opened and a delicious feeling began to rise in my abdomen. Within a couple of minutes, the practitioner asked, "How do you feel?" I told her that I felt like someone had placed a weight across my belly and it was wonderful.
The matronly lady, my colon nurse, paid every attention to detail that assured my comfort and allowed me to relax. That session of pampering lasted over an hour during which she checked my effluent waste, influent water temperature and massaged my distended belly. She was a professional administrator in every way and I still remember her with fondness. The last pleasantry was the bill, thirty dollars which I paid to the receptionist who asked me, "How do you feel?" My answer, a"Wonderful!!"
During the remaining time of my business trip, I visited that "colonic colinic" twice more before returning home. I visited with my colonic nurse and a younger practicioner at the doctor's office several times after that and every time I went to New York.
That was my first visit for what later became known as, "Colon Hydrotherapy" and I avail myself to it every chance I get. Most lately, I have been going to Hartford, Ct to two ladies who, although younger, avail me to the same professional pampering and the total cleansing that only Colon Hydrotherapy can do.
The epilogue to my first adventure that I have just described, is that because of this first experience and the many, many ones that have been given to me since, I have constructed a gravity irrigator here at my home and use it for myself once or twice a week. I am planning to install a pressure machine for my own use in the near future.
Also, i wish to have you remember that if you can't visit a professional practitioner, take an enema because; An enema a day keeps the doctor away!
