Mother always held it in place what ever position she took it mostly in diaper position in hospital as child nurses always held it in place often other hand holding you steady so didn't move with thermometer in bottom
Most of the moments I can remember it was just left sticking out, until it was time to check the reading. Now, though, there's a bit of both to it. I love the feeling of it being inched just a little bit back in when it's being held, and my partner sure doesn't mind that either!
I recall my mother placing it in and leaving it to put away the vaseline, but I also had nurses that would keep a finger over the end to assist it staying in place. I suppose everyone had their technique, but most often I believe it was left in place.
Growing up it was always held in place by mom or the nurse. As an adult, my rectal temp taken by a medical professional has often been left sticking out, which allows me to be very mindful of not squirming or rejecting the thermometer.
Posted elsewhere that my underpants were pulled up over the thermometer to put pressure on it and hold it in place for the 3 minutes
As my mom preferred the diaper position to take my rectal temperature, the thermometer had to be held in place -- otherwise it would have slipped out.
As I took my own rectal temperature, as was the common way back then in France for adults and children old enough: left sticking out, but under bedsheets. It sometimes slipped out in which case I was to reinsert it right away.
Iv never had the experience of receiving a rectal temperature in a real clinical setting. But I have been lucky enough to play with someone for a time and of course experience the joys of self temping to which there is no limit. It always stumps me how for some a thermometer sits beautifully unsupported, in some online images and videos it will only be ever so slightly 'in' and still sitting up right in all its glory. No matter what position I use my thermometer always begins to slide, always. Inserting to depth can help but it'll always start to eject itself.Hands on for me folks.
I had the experience of having a "trainee" and I'm guessing in her late teens, perhaps 18/19,( I never knew if she was a student nurse or some other functionary under the watchful eye of a registered nurse, take my rectal temperature in the E.R. What she did wasn't so much holding the thermometer in place, though other caretakers have done that when taking my RT; but she was one of those "twisters", and she'd turned the thermometer while inserted.
I'm pretty sure my mother held the thermometer in place when she took my temperature rectally. While I vividly remember my last rectal temp at the doctor's, I can't remember if the nurse held it in place or if she left it sticking out. Judging from the incredible way it felt, chances are she held it in place.I do remember that on both occasions when I saw my sister's temperature being taken rectally at our pediatrician's, the thermometer was left sticking out. And it was inserted more then halfway in, too.
I never had my rectal temp taken as a child but having it done in play as an adult If it's to check that I'm well enought to take a spanking then held in place while getting scolded for my bad behaviour and reminded of the spanking I'm about to recieve !
Mine were always left sticking out while I was lying on my side. I loved when it would slowly ease its way out.... my mom would then reinsert....
Mine was always left sticking out that I can remember. It never seemed to be a problem. Now when I check my temperature I hold it in every so often, but for the most part the thermometer stays in on its own.
Usually held in place, though I remember it slipping out and having to be pushed back in if it slipped out if it wasn't held.Nowadays, I usually hold in place if taking mine or a play partner's.
Mom held it in, pulled it out slightly halfway through and slid it back in. When I take mine I like to slowly slid the thermometer in and out, Feels so good.
When my mom inserted the cold rod into my hiney, she always held it in place for the 5 minutes. I just relaxed the whole time.
Mom and grandma always held it in. Depending on which nurse took it at the pediatrician's office it was sometimes held and sometimes left sticking out. Of course if the nurse thought you were trying to push it out, she would push it back in and give a sharp smack on your bare bottom.
It was always held in. For somereason a thermometer is always slipping out of my bottom. If my Dom wants to left in in, he's pushing it in veeery deep.
When I was a kid, my rectal temperature was always taken while I was laying on my belly and always left sticking out. I still do it this way unless I am going in and out with it which feels incredible.
There is no need to hold the glass rectal thermometer in place. That is a the depth of length as well as the tight opening keeps the glass rectal thermometer securely lodged in the patient's rear end.
