Quantity per se isn't the ultimate factor, but in my youth for 20-30 years I routinely did 2-2.5 quarts and loved it. As I read more of Zity and learned more of others' experience and training, I gradually moved to 3, 3.5, 4, and one single time of 5 quarts.Honestly, 4.5 quarts is not my absolute limit limit obviously, but it's where I feel most comfortable, beautifully filled and distended, but able to hold for as long as I want, doing some interesting mild exercise while holding. Of course, the solution composition makes things more ore less interesting and comfortable or challenging as well. My usual supremely comfortable, noncrampy mix is normal saline 1 tsp salt per quart, plus 1 tsp plain Castile a Soap per quart of enema.
I did 3 quarts today with just 1/3 more Castile Soap than usual (4 tsp in 3 quarts instead of the usual 3), which I'm not sure I'd even notice, but even though absolutely no cramps occurred, it gave me many many intense needs to push out of my low rectum. In the process, I learned to not let it make me evacuate during those urges, but rather hold my double balloon firmly up against my ass, totally relax, and not poop. It was an intense learning experience, but I did it.
I really can't wait now to get my new order of Bronners plain, lavender and peppermint soaps coming this week. Now I think those will be a new learning experience I will love to start ASAP.
