Today while sauntering around antique and junk stores, I came upon a whole set of medical instruments and furniture.
There must have been some 40 or 50 different instruments, 2 large operating lamps, a small operating table, a larger table in metal and then a smaller trolley of sorts. I would guess the material to have been from immediately prior or post WWII. In any case, quite old as these things go and in good condition. The metal tops to the operating table and other table were gleaming clean and in nicely polished metal.
Asking price for everything was 2000 euros. Not much given what was all included, but it was a group sale. You buy all or nothing - though I did manage to buy one instrument - a sort of anal probe. The argument being that one instrument would not be missed from the lot.
I would suppose that it will all end up in someone's reconverted industrial loft, since everything except the instruments themselves can conceivably be used for 'normal' purposes. The operating and large tables would really fit in nicely with a modern hi-tech kitchen, or possibly in a dining-room. The smaller trolley can be used anywhere as could the operating lamps, even in a bathroom.
This is the second time within a short period that I've sen something of this medical nature for sale. And nothing in all the many years previously. Happenstance? Or changing awareness of what can sell?
