Unfortunately no.
I was indeed raised with RT as my overprotective mother used to take my temperature every time she though I did look ill or tired, so that was about once a month. When my mother stopped taking my temperature, I started to take it myself as I enjoyed it a lot.
I was married a fairly long time to a woman who hated RT. I have not been able to convince her to try it, neither on medical indications, neither as part of our sexgames, we had few of them anyhow. She refused of course that our son ever got RT and we had endless discussions when she by chance saw me taking my own temperature rectally.
She claimed my taste for RT was just another proof that I was in fact gay.
We eventually separated and I now enjoy a happy relation with a girlfriend who shares my taste for RT and we use it often in our sexgames, and we have a lot of them.
I have not even discussed the subject with my son, who is now in his twenties, but I am afraid he never had his rectal temperature taken. I think he misses something.
Speaking in general terms, I suppose the development of, not only ear and frontal thermometers, but also devices that monitor your temperature without contact wil probably kill RT at least in its medical applications. LOL as my son would say. .
