During last year I was examined several times by my sister-in-law for a rash I had at the top of my legs. This came about after a chance conversation we had when I visited her one afternoon and confessed to having the rash after we'd been discussing her problem with insect bites. She offered to 'take a look' which merely involved me dropping my jeans the first time but eventually led on subsequent visits, when she would ask 'would you like me to take a look again' to me undressing for her.I would lay on my back, legs apart, on the bed for the examination of my groin and then be asked to turn over and kneel on the edge with my legs open and my chest down; then I'd feel her fingers spreading my cheeks as she'd examine me from the back of my scrotum to my anus. I loved the feeling of complete embarrassment having her peering at my anus (and later shaving around it but that's another story) seeing a part of me I'll never see. After the examination she'd apply cream to the examined areas even after the first couple of visits when the rash had disappeared. Just to make it clear nothing sexual was happening, except in my mind, I was the only one removing clothing, she was purely doing it out of kindness and concern.

I haven't, but my wife does at her dermatologist. I guess he checks everything incuding genitals and between her butt cheeks. I do hope he does a thorough job. 😃

No. On the three occasions on which I received a rectal exam, I was told to lower my pants and underpants and lie on my left side with my knees flexed. But the doctor took care of actually spreading my buttocks.

Doctor asked you the spread your butt cheeks is to make sure there's no weird stuff growing out of your butt-hole (hemorrhoids etc..) that part only lasts maybe 30 seconds total. Its just awkward, so it seems like it lasts longer. 😃

Another unlikely account of your fantasies. Unless you weigh about 350, there's no reason for you to spread your own cheeks. A 'routine' prostate exam by a PCP in your 20s is also unlikely.

Why do physicals vary based on precipitating cause? Because the doctor has to answer questions on a form.

Why is a 'routine' DRE unlikely by your PCP at an early age? Because it's unnecessary and not reimbursed by insurance.

When I received a digital rectal exam for suspicions of appendicitis during childhood, I was made to squat in a position not unlike that for pooping in a squat toilet and to put my fist under my buttocks to support me (I don't remember the details, it just was weird). I guess this opens up the anus and spreads the buttocks.

I once had a check for bad hemorrhoids but I don't remember if I spread the buttocks or the doctor did it.

I had to spread my butt cheeks by Doctor's request only twice so far.. The Last one a couple of years ago when I suspected I had hemorrhoids (but it turned out to be a swollen perianal fistula) after explaining my symptoms the Dr said "stand up, lower pants and underwear to your knees, bend over and spread your butt cheeks so I can take a look " , I did exactly as he said , he took a 10 seconds glance (no touching) and that was it, he proscribed pills for the swelling and a cream for the painful zone, and also explained that this can only be solved by surgery which I refuse to go through (so I'm still dealing with it) But the 1st was the most embarrassing one because I was aged 11 and it happened at Elementary School during an unexpected visit from the Doctor sent by the State Government to check only on. boys from 6th and 7th grade.Teacher called all boys out of classroom and lead us to the Director's office without letting us know the reason for doing that. She said when doctor call us in we must enter in pairs (2 boys together) then she left. We didn't know what to expect, the first kids were called in, and the rest of us waited outside nervously, wondering what was all about.

10 mins later other 2 boys were called in but the first ones still remained in the room, door closed, 2 minutes later they got out and tell us all what had happened in there. We were all almost in shock! We would have to get nude from waist down for the doctor! I couldn't believe it!

Do that now! " and we lowered our clothes to the ankles. The other boys were watching the whole scene. Then he ordered "turn around, bend over and spread your butt cheeks! " we were red faced, and astonished we did as he said. Then the doctor got close and bend a little to look our butt holes with a little flashlight he had in his right hand, he took about 30 seconds on each. Then he said almost yelling (as if we were in the Army) "stand straight, face me up, grab your dicks -he did say Dicks, not Penises- retract your foreskin and show me your glanses! "

I was surprised embarrassed extremely nervous red faced and with my body almost shaking ,so does my classmate, he was feeling so bad, he couldn't retract his foreskin either! The Dr yelled "Do that now or I will retract it with my bare hands! " he replied "I, I can't do it doctor! " he almost broke up in tears! But finally he did it! The doctor took a closer look using his flashlight again and said, "that's it boys, get your pants up! " We did that in a second (didn't want to be exposed any longer!) and the 4 of us left the room with mixed feelings in our minds.. We couldn't believe what we just went through! For me this Surprise Examination was the most embarrassing I have had back on those days! (when becoming a teen, I had my first Full Physical, but that's another story!) These are the 2 examples I can give for Spreading Butt Cheeks (both were awful, specially the first one!)

In Russian and other post-Soviet countries, it is a must for many jobs to have regular checkups. There's not much of an exam, but rather laboratory tests.

The all-time favorite is a rectal swab. Which is done several times per year to a huge number of people. For example, everyone who deals with food. So when you're having dinner you know for sure the waitress had her ass checked 😃

To save time, the rectal swab is taken in the standing position, bent at the waist, and with patient separating their own cheeks.

I never had jobs requiring rectal swabs. But working in a hotel I needed to undergo a vaginal swab. And also to save time, it was taken in the same position. I had to bend over and separate the buttocks... Must have been five or six times in 2.5 years

I'm sorry but where are you from? It's totally crazy to do a vaginal swab or culture if you were a receptionist. What you had done is almost tantamount to sexual impropriety.

In my practice in California it is common to swab the rectum when bacterial gastroenteritis or gonococcal proctitis is suspected. I've never heard of it outside a medical setting.

No, one time when ny grandmother told my pediatrician I was constipated, she told me to lay on my side hugging my knees, and pressed around my anus to get a better look at it. Another time at the gyn the same thing was done by one doctor, pressing around but not on my anus to spread it. But this time as my legs were already spread in the stirrups

Presumably the only reason to do that without a rectal exam is to see if there are external hemmorhoids. I have no idea why that was important for having my four wisdom teeth removed.

That's actually a valid reason for doing a hernia check. The school doesn't want to be responsible for strenuous activity for causing or exacerbating an existing hernia.

Only once for a rectal exam. No other doctor has had me do that. Not sure why this doctor thought that he couldn't do the rectal without my help.
