Not 2 months ago, I had an short, but intense episode of unending abdominal pain and horrid headache. It was a case of appendicitis as I had surmised it to be while writhing through the wee hours of the night while under curfew.
Anyway, at hospital it was diagnosed as appendicitis and I was operated on some 12 hours after final diagnosis. Even in my horrid condition, I was still wondering what the pre-op would be: shaving, a emptying of the bowels with one of those small solutions, a sedative and so on.
Now, maybe because of covid cases filling up the hospital or whatever, the nurse just asked when I had last gone to the toilet, what I had eaten in the meantime (not a single bite of anything, it all felt horrid) nor did anyone check on my hair status. It was in fact a bit longer than usual, maybe 5 or 6 mm. Nor did I get a sedative that I know of.
And when I woke up and checked later, I hadn't been shaved either, despite 3 cuts in the abdomen. Those in charge of the surgery didn't feel it necessary I suppose. I was checked out about 20 hours after waking up. Rooms needed for other emergency cases due to hospital filling up.
