I am middle-aged and up until the past few years, I had always had a male doctor. About 7 or 8 years ago I started going to my current doctor, who is female. When I was a child, my mother would take me in for a physical every year to our family doctor (male). When I was an adult in my twenties, and for most of my thirties, I normally only went to a doctor if I was sick. In that entire time period, I probably only had 2 or 3 physicals at most. When my dad got cancer in 2003, I started going in for annual exams because I got scared.
Nearly all of the physicals that I had with male doctors were the same, they would take some bloodwork, check my ears/nose/throat, my throat, chest (listen to my breathing and respiration) and palpate my abdomen.
None of the male doctors ever even looked at my anus, let alone performed a DRE. About half of them would ask me to drop my pants at the end of the exam and they would check me for a hernia on both sides. The other half would have me lay down and they would stick a hand underneath my underwear and palpate my pubic area and that would be it.
In all of the exams given to me by men, I was always at least half-dressed. I always either had my shirt or my pants/underpants on. No gown and no nudity.
My first physical with my current doctor, a woman, was quite different and quite a surprise! She spends at least half of the time just talking to me to find out what is going on and what issues I may have. She then leaves and the nurse comes in and gives me a hospital gown and tells me to put it on with it open in front. I am tall, so it only covers about half of my body and my wife told me that when I'm wearing it, my privates are on display most of the time...
She checks everything from head to toe, including a testicular check (but no hernia check) and a DRE. Both the testicular check and the DRE were HUGE surprises to me when she first did them because no one had ever done them to me before, and the fact that she was female added to the mystique for me...
When she palpates my stomach, she always has me lay back on the table. Since they specifically tell you not to tie the gown in front, when you lay down the gown always falls open. So for several minutes at least of the exam, I actually am prone and naked (which is erotic..) in front of her.
Needless to say, the testicular exam is the most erotic part of the exam for me personally. However, the exam she does of my neck is actually surprisingly erotic as well (since it's hardly an erogenous zone), but she comes from behind you and cradles your head and neck with both hands. It is a surprisingly intimate gesture, and I have to watch myself to not react to it and in a way that would be embarrassing if she noticed...
Since I can honestly say that I did not have a medical fetish until I started going to her, in terms of enjoyment of the experience, male doctors simply don't compare with female ones, in my opinion.
