I really didn't know what would happen until i experienced my first exam at 14. i was scared, and it hurt. it was NOT a pleasant experience.
My first was after I had sex the first time at 17. All my friends and my sister were ahead of me. So they told me all about it and my sister went with me for it.
I learned about the pelvic exam as I received my first pelvic at 14. I had issues with irregular cycles, so the doc put me on birth control for regulatory purposes, which then necessitated my getting a pelvic exam. Not a fun experience!
In case anyone hadn't noticed, when this topic showed up on Zity, it was truncated as: "How did you ladies learn about the g..." I thought....well this is going to an interesting conversation about the "G-spot" . Oh well. 😃
I read about it when I was ten. It excited me, but I dreaded it until it finally happened when I was 16.
Although my mom had mentioned it a few times I learned most about gyn exams from an older female cousin. She described her first one in great detail to me and her younger sister a few days after she had it. I'm not sure if it had any great effect on me when I had my first but at least I knew what to expect.
Maturation class in elementary school. My current GYN I have had for many years taught all the maturation and sex education for the school district. It is a small school district. I was friends with his daughter through high school. Several years back my first GYN retired to go into psychiatry. He referred me to this GYN. He is just as incredible as I remember him when I was going from elementary school up through high school. He also taught the human reproduction in the various science and health classes in the 2 junior high schools and the one high school.Excellent physician with excellent bedside manner.
I learnt about them from talking with my sister when we were in our teens. I got the impression she wasn't fully informed what to expect before going. My wife learnt in a similar fashion, on the job so to speak, I know she did a better job providing information to our two as still the days before the interent.
As I already wrote in other discussions here I was just 17. Two girl friends told me “We have to get in things called stirrups. We put our feet in them and that keeps us spread open for the doctor.” Both of them then went on to tell me the doctor then examined them inside. They added the doctor was pretty nice and they both liked HER. Not a him like I got.
I knew from my mum that there was a doctor that takes care of women's problems but I didn't know exactly what that meant. When I had to get my first exam, I looked it up on the internet. I was one of the first ones among my friends to get examined so I couldn't really ask them about their experiences.
When I was little, my mom had the book “Our Bodies, Our Selves” and I used to read it and look at the pictures. It gave me an idea of the “ins and outs” if you'll pardon the pun.
