In real life, I knew a girl (slender, 20ish brunette, fwiw) who had cystic fibrosis, a lung and pancreas disease that usually ends in a lung transplant. Before and after transplant, the patient would be susceptible to common bugs that the rest of us do fine with, like the common cold.
Therefore, in certain situations, including CF clinic, and crowds and such, the patient would need to wear a mask. Sometimes the common earloop masks (usually yellow) would be used, but even more common nowadays seems to be the 3M 1860, which is the turquoiseish, N95 rated thick cone mask with two rubber bands. Much less common, usually seen just at Stanford, is the half mask cartridge respirator (slicone, thick strap harness, one big pink disc on each side).
Have any of you done exams or other scenarios where the patient has to mask up (not oxygen or anesthetic. Protective masks)?
That would be a dream for me. Especially if I got to help a girl fit test a mask.
How do you feel about those newfangled "fashionable" masks? Say, from Vogmask or I Can Breathe (my aforementioned friend had several masks, including a white, lace mask from I Can Breathe)? Is it more in line with med fet just to go with the hospital masks, or can the fashion masks be erotic to you?
Also, How do you feel about decorating masks? I think it looks sloppy, whether it's sequins or drawing/writing. Takes away from the fetishy part of it, even if the patient feels like she looks better.
ETA: I had thought I had started a new thread for this reply, because to me it seemed a bit off-topic (with mention of vogmasks and respirators). But I'll leave this here, because I sense it was deliberately moved into this thread.
