Company Medical Exam

Hi Guys,

Im a 53 yr old male in UK and I am to be sent to AXA for a medical to see if I can be retired early on health grounds .

I am type 2 diabetic and have aschemic Heart condition and have had lots of other ops and complaints too over last few years including having to be Circumcised at age 50 due to Diabetic problems.

Do you think I would be right in asking for a "Full Medical", ie, everything off?.

Would this look odd or is there a more than fair chance I will have to have a full head to toe examination anyhow?.

Any of our UK members out there able to offer any advice or experience on this either as healthcare provider or as a Patient please.

I am keen to get naked but dont want it to look so blooming obvious!.

You'd think that given there are financial implications for the company or at least it's pension scheme that the examination would be thorough in the extreme to find reasons why you shouldn't be retired, i.e. that you could be redeployed etc. That especially applies to examinations on behalf of a pension scheme because they are going to be stuck with paying a pension and you'll live to 100!

However though, in actual fact the medical will almost certainly be carried out by a contracted medical practice or medical practitioner who want money in the cash register, next please!, and I'd suggest the examination will be a cursory check and an interview about your symptoms and that you'll be thrown out the back door as quickly as you came in the front.

So, if you're less concerned about the potential for being retired and more interested in dropping your pants then I'd definitely go down the route of finding a medfet doc to meet your needs. I don't think that mentioning your circumcision problems will cut any ice at all. If he examines your penis he'll have to wash his hands and that won't do when the next patient could be in and the cash register ringing, lol

It is true in the U.S. as well that employer mandated exams are usually carried out by contracted practices that are paid by the number of exams they provide. They do tend to be quick and rather cursory, but I have never had one that did not include the genitalia, hernia, and rectal. In fact, in my experience, those parts seem to get the majority of the time spent on them. I hid a camera phone in my pants pocket which were hanging on a hook in the exam room and recorded my most recent employment physical. The entire exam lasted 7 minutes, with slightly more than 3.5 minutes spent on the rectal, genital and hernia. Oddly, this physician did the rectal before the genital and hernia exams.
