I take an enema whenever I can't remember my last one. I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday. Come to think of it I can't remember my last enema. I'm going to play now. Not that I needed an excuse.
For rapid (one day) repetitive cleaning enemas, how long do you folks wait between Enemas 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.? This is my first day of training doing this (after 60+ years of enemas). My only limitation is my sore anus/sphincter right now after 2 quick 2.5 quart soothing enemas. My buttocks, my belly, my colon and everything else (and I never ever get nauseated with enemas, no matter (so far) the content, volume or holding time). My third is already in the bag ready to go.So 1) how long do you guys wait between enemas for butt cleaning, and2) what can I use for a soothing anal/sphincter preparation between or during enemas? You have to understand I'm a doctor but I know almost nothing about anal/sphincter soothing meds except Vaseline. I was in Walgreens today and just happened to see Desitiin (diaper rash?) and Albolene (use?), so that's about my pharmacological knowledge after med school 35 years ago because of not taking care of baby bottoms except my own kids who are now 20+23.). Any sphincter advice is gratefully accepted and passed on.
Doc Eric (Dick), you can Rx yourself Anusol-HC crème, or Rx Proctofoam-HC. Both have hydrocortisone to reduce swelling. For irritation try, Prep-H ointment, Zinc oxide ointment, "Mutton Tallow".
Jimmy, MANY thanks. I'll start working with those though I'll avoid the prescription steroid if I can.
Jimmy,I read here somewhere on Zity about A & D Ointment. What do you think about that as an anal/sphincter soother? Worth trying?
I have a strict rule no enemas while pregnant or nursing!!I WILL NOT harm my own children.I WILL be the mother that my mother had the capability and not the emotional strength to be.
Doc Eric, yes, definitely try A & D ointment. Any ointment that is used on babies bottoms is fine for ourselves. Plain old petroleum jelly is also great as a protectant.

Changed from my last post.6 or 7 sessions a week.1 time per a session.That means 6 or 7 times a week.Ummm, not much changed.
Not nearly often enough. The wife isn't into enemas at all, so I have to find private quiet times when I can indulge myself, which isn't often these days.
Currently doing 1-3 enemas every three days on a schedule. Quick affair, try to get them in and out in under an hour, so the break between expelling and getting the next one ready is about 5 minutes.I don't often have a problem with an irritated anus, but I have used Desitin/A+D/diaper rash ointment a couple of times. It helps, but have some dish soap handy for clean up.Plus side - I'm doing better than I have in years now that I'm on the schedule. Generally feeling better, weight and appetite stable, and the bowels are generally even working between the enemas.
Extremely variable. Sometimes not for months or weeks, but recently, last couple of weeks, one (or up to 3) every single day including the one I'm planning right after this post. I don't know when you guys have the time (I read some get up at 4 AM to do it) but congratulations to your clean happy colons.Eric
Last enema was 2 hours ago of slightly hypertonic saline 3 quarts via 36" colon tube put in about 10-12" which is far as I can get it so far. Very nice. About dry now, waiting for the polyuric (urine) flood to start soon.
I have gone as long as 18 months (9 months pregnancy, 6 months of breast feeding and 4 months of working my ass off to make up lost ground) without an enema.I have taken enemas 6 weeks apart, so you just never know. It's when the situation aises.
Every 3 days, 2.5 qts. tap water. If I don't, I will have 6-10 small BM's per day, with only a 2 minute warning before waste is expelled by itself: No sigmoid, half a rectum and no more Valves of Houston sphincters to control retention. It's also fun time for me, as well as being a hygienically needed necessity. And it sure beats the hell out of dealing with a colostomy.
Sundays almost for certain and also Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, W and Th being preferred simply because of the number of days between them. Usually one, maybe two 4 qt tap water fillings, two being preferred, but time limits my activities.hankb
Whenever the Mood strikes me !! Or whenever my colon tells me,"It's time!!!!!!" Funny how that goes! 'Can go for Weeks sometimes....then,"All hell breaks loose! Break out the Bag.........'NUFF SAID!!!!!!,with a "CLICK!!!!!,"highwater
I take them about every other day, but I take deep and repetitive enemas. I don't stop till the water comes out clear everytime. I feel so clean and empty afterwards.
Last year I wrote in this topic that I took an enema every other week. Since that time, I'm at home more and my IBS has gotten worse. So now, I take an enema every 2 or 3 days. My stomach usually tells me when I need to go and that's when the bag comes out. There are times when it is needed every day and at other times, two or three days. I also have to take a dose of Miralax daily so my stool won't be hard and difficult to expel. A good Ivory soap enema also helps with the expulsion.
I try not to take them any more often than every 6-8 weeks.@LisaK To each their own, whatever the person is comfortable with!
I suffer from IBS also but I don't use soap because it irritating to my colon so I just use baking soda & salt or just plain warm tap water.
Usually once a week as in 1 light soapsuds enema and a followup with 1 clear water rinse enema of a slightly larger volume than the initial ' SS ' enema .
Nowdays it really depends on my mood. Somethims i go 2-3 months without, sometimes it is 2 or 3 times a week ( Soapsuds included, trying to up the strength a little by little. Somehow I have a craving to try teh Suzie Rough Ride at some point ^^
I responded to this about 4 years ago, and not much has changed. I try to take an enema as often as i can but it averages out to 3-4 times per week, and usually from 4 to 6 bags per session.
I'm 67 years old and retired, therefore I have lots of time to take enemas. I take about 5 or 6 gallons about 5 times a week. I have been doing this for several years without any ill effects. I have had 2 colonoscopies without anesthesia and no problems were found. I usually use my Seeking Health gallon bag or the Pittsburgh Multi-use Transfer Pump about which i have posted. I also have a JBL bag which l occasionally use.
