Yes for my hernia the surgery doctor used a local anesthesia for about 14cm incision, i didn't feel any pain but i was completly awake and conscious. In my country this is the procedure for this kind of disease. The doctor used a type of mesh for block the hernia.
The tecnique is called "method trabucco".
The anesthesia duration was about 1 hour, after i began to feel the pain for the incision.

I had a very similar open incision procedure with local anesthesia. The repair turned out to be more difficult than most, according to what my surgeon told me later, and took much longer than an hour. At one point I could feel the anesthesia wearing off. I didn't feel pain then but I could feel the doctor working there, so they injected more anesthesia.
The pain level gradually increased while I was in the recovery room so the nurses gave me something to relieve it, but it made me extremely nauseous and I had a blood pressure crash. I also had selling in the surgical area, including the prostate, which meant that I could not pass urine for a while.
My recovery ended up being closer to three weeks. This was an unusual case and should not concern anyone who is facing the surgery, especially if he is to have the laparascopic version. The good news is that my second operation, which was also an open incision, went very well with no complications and a short recovery.
