I DO have a white 4-qt open-top bag. Before I can use it i need to clear my system. I have written about my system cleanouts a number of times. Essentially, I make sure my system is fully clear first. I wait at least an hour, longer if possible for the laxatives from the cleanout to finish doing their thing. I fill the bag with a strong solution of soapsuds, and make it just slightly hotter than a cleansing enema. I use the Simms position, with one pillow under my head, and one under the wide part of my hips. That way there is still that downhill run into my colon. I keep a small dishpan within arms reach, usually on the floor just over the edge of the bed, just in case I DO vomit. If I did the fast before the cleanout enema correctly I usually don't, but, it HAS happened, so better safe than sorry. I also keep an old, worn out washcloth or hand towel on the bed in arms reach to use as either a bite rag or a twist rag, depending on how this particular enema goes. I hang it on the same hook I hang the other enemas, so it does run fast, compared to other enemas. I also use a barium-type nozzle. I thoroughly lube the NOZZLE-never the rectum! with a THIN coat of KY jelly, I also set the clamp about 24 inches from the bottom of the hose, instead of 8-12, like a cleanout enema.
I make sure I'm as relaxed as the Simms position will allow. Then I SLOWLY insert the nozzle, making SURE it's pointed at the navel, and that it's in all the way to the hose. If I need a hand mirror to check, I use one, but since that hose is ribbed, I can pretty well tell. I take at least 5 minutes to make sure I'm fully relaxed, fully in the moment, the nozzle has stayed put, I have stayed in position and that the pillow IS right under the point of my hip. At that point, I take at least three of the deepest breaths I can, more if I think I need to. I put my hand on the valve. On the last one, I hold it for a few seconds, and open the valve before I breathe out. Sometimes it takes several seconds for the bloating to begin. I'm not going to kid anyone it hurts!!! When I hear that "sucking" sound that you get at the end of an open-top enema, I make sure the nozzle has stayed all the way in, and just maintain position. I also leave the valve OPEN in case my bowel decides to rebel If I DO have to vomit, I just hang my head over the bed, and hold the dishpan close to my mouth. Otherwise it is not so much different from any other large enema, except for the tummy ache, and the fact that if you DID touch my tummy(Please, PLEASE DON'T!) my bowels would feel hard as rock. I just try to hold as long as possible. When it IS time to head for the toilet, typically 3-6 minutes, I unhook the bag, and hold it above my head as I'm heading for the bathroom. I only lower it to waist level when I'm really NOT going to make it to the toilet. Once in the bathroom, I actually put the bag in the bathtub, lying flat, with the open end about 8-12 inches from the drain, pointed right at the drain. That way I can see what is coming out, but cleanup is fairly easy. What does come out is mostly yellow. After the initial expulsion, I remove the nozzle, sit on the toilet, relax and let it expel like any other enema.
