I had my appentectomy a little over a year ago. When I was talking with the surgeon before I went down to the OR, he told me that if it wasn't ruptured then they would remove it laprascopically. I didn't know they did that.
I was happy when I woke up and was able to take a look at myself that the surgeon didn't have to cut me open the traditional way. I had three little areas. One about 3 inches away from my belly button on the right side, one in my belly button, and one right at my pubic hair line. With the exception of the one in my belly button, the cuts were only about 1.5 cm long. They were glued shut and a steri strip was put on top of them to help ensure their closure.
After less than 6 months I would say, the areas were hardly visable. And today, I can't even find them. Modern medicine is fantastic. I was told by the surgeon that if he had to open me up I would have to stay at the hospital 3-5 days post op, and with a lap, just 23 hours. So I went in on an emergent basis from work on Friday night, went to surgery Saturday morning, was released Sunday morning, and was back to work Tuesday night.
While the new less invasive proceedures don't do anytyhing for your love of appendectomy scars, it's much better for the body, and cheaper for your wallet, lol.
