I don't know how old this lube is, lots of it left. In my opinion it looks like it's around 15'ish years old but would it work for lube still?

Also, what about lube that's on a toy and it goes inside you, what happens after you take the toy out? Does the lube dissolve and go away? Just seems like it'll sit there and cause infection.

If you are stretching your ass to it's limits and looking to go beyond that then a generous amount of petroleum jelly is better to use than ANY water based lube. Water based will breakdown in the middle of anal play and you definitely don't want that if your stretching your ass. Just make sure to clean out a bit afterwards. 😃

While that is true, lubes sold "specially for anal play" are labeled as such so they have a reason to exist since practically any lube (oil, silicone or water based) can be used for anal lubrication depending on the sensation you enjoy. Furthermore, lubes described for anal play aren't any better than any other lube. Preference for certain lubricants is extremely subjective.

Petroleum jelly is perfectly safe anally. I would prefer not to use it vaginally because of the bacterial issues and it doesn't feel anything like pussy juice--the gold standard..

Any lube left after toy removal will come out of the body along with the normal secretions.

I've always heard that petroleum jellies break down the rubber used in making the toy itself. So I've always used "astroglide" or some similar lube on my toys. However, you can use petroleum jellies on hard plastic.

Oil (petroleum) based lubes will destroy latex toys and silicone lubes will destroy silicone toys.

Oil based, vaseline/petrolatum based lubes are perfectly safe for long term exposure to any skin type except the eye. It is the base of all ointments (not creams) that are Rx and OTC.

Water based lubes are safe for all toys and equipment.

The ones i have seen in some sex shops, and used, are different from the ones i use for vaginal play, they feel a little more slippery, and they dont 'dry up' as quick

You shouldnt use any vaseline on latex anything. Vaseline breaks down latex which will shorten most toy life and will also degrade a condom if you are using one. If KY doesnt work for you, natural cooking oils work and dont dry out as quickly.

I wish people would stop preaching about how much better water based lubes are over petroleum based lubes. They really are not THAT good for anal play. Vaginal play, yes by all means but NOT anal play.

Fact is, water based lubes dry out quickly no matter how much the label tells you it last longer than anything else. this makes it tricky for anal play because when you're really into it and your partner is thrusting like mad, you may not notice the friction that is building up in your ass until it's too late. Petroleum based lubes stay slick MUCH MUCH longer that any water based lube and is therefore safer for anal play.

Yes, they do break down latex and rubber so just be advised. That said, I've been a huge butt plug and dildo fan for years and can now take toys that are over 3 inches in width. i didn't get there by using water based lubes though. They were never slick enough to get me past my limits and into the next size up so before I started experimenting i used vaseline for years on my rubber and latex toys and I'm sure they broke down the materials but not to any extent that was noticeable.

These days I use creams like "Vaseline Intensive Rescue Moisture Locking Body Butter" as well as this cream... The only difference is that the body butter is thicker and comes in a tub where this one comes in a pump bottle.

It's a nice balance between water based and petroleum based and it smells great!!! It stays slick for a very long time and when combined with J-lube it is incredible but I do reapply water to keep everything slick the entire time I play!!!!

If you want a really good lube then try silicone lube. Stays slick for hours and great for ass play BUT it is very expensive and just like petroleum based lubes break down rubber and latex, silicone lubes will break down silicone toys. By how much??? Who knows.

Lastly, it doesn't matter what kind of lube you use for ass play, if you are stretching your ass out to take VERY WIDE toys or just trying anal sex for the very first time then you will definitely want to use lots of lube and always reapply even if you think things are going along smoothly and you don't need it. Trust me, this will keep you from having a sore ass the next day.

As with everybody else's posts on what they like, YOUR post relates YOUR experience, and everybody has their likes and dislikes.

I, for one, like water based lubes better than oil or silicone based lubes for everything.

There are many different brands of water based lubes, and maybe you just haven't found one you like.

Good for you.... But it's no better or worse than oil based..... both have their pros and cons.... If you read my post carefully, you would have picked up on that.

Assuming someone has tried numerous lubes, the use of specific types of lubricants are really a matter of personal preference.

Regarding lubes breaking down toys (e.g. Vaseline/latex, silicone/silicone, water/nothing 😉 ), dissimilar toys that come in contact with each other can also cause one to break down, or "melt". This happens mostly with the "jelly" materials, though, and not the better quality silicone toys. Another down-side of the "jelly" toys (aside from the fact that many contain phthalate - a non-human friendly chemical) is that after a while, the plasticizer (the chemical that makes it rubbery instead of hard) oozes out of the material and gives it a permanently greasy/oily feel that doesn't seem to wash off ... definitely not what you want to stick up your butt!!! ???

My suggestion to everyone is to avoid the "jelly" toys, and stick with human-friendly materials like silicone, TPR, etc. When in double, make sure its labeled as "phthalate-free"!

Petroleum Jelly makes a good anal lube, it does not dry up and keeps you wet for a long time.

A & D Ointment is also oil based, contains a lot of lanolin and has a thinner viscosity than vaseline, makes for a smoother insertion than vaseline and also stays in place for a long time. I do like A & D when I am having a colonic and the speculum stays in place for over an hour. It keeps the area slippery so the speculum can rotate or slide slightly in the anus as I move during the procedure.

The only thing I don't like about A & D ointment is its odor.

But I still like water based better for most things.

I enjoy using both, water based and vasaline. Its really just a personal preference. There are just two different feels to them.

I agree with Analee.....petroleum jelly works well and is long lasting. I have been using it for 40 years and I am still going strong.

No doubt for me. Vaseline is a great base lube on anal toys and a good protective lube for the sphincter just before discharge of an enema; however, I've seen latex tubes deteriorate when used with Vaseline (the surface starts getting rough then radial cracks appear.) So, I opt for a vegetable solid like Crisco or Spry.

OTOH, maybe I'm unreasonable in complaining about latex tube deterioration that takes place over a couple of years.

I've started substituting silicone oil lubes for a few of my practices. It has some unique properties of it's own and a small amount of left-over silicone residue seems to work for a second session hours after the first without a re-lube. Remember though that it will Kill a silicone toy.

Has anyone ever tried taking melted vaseline as an enema? It doesn't have a high heat capacity (doesn't hold heat) and the sensation coming out would be interesting...

Vaseline is a great lube but don't use it on conductive rubber and E-stim. It will kill the transfer of naughty electrons. You may also find some jelly toys should only be used with a water based lube to prevent cracking.

Vaseline is great for big toys, just wash them off really well afterwards. I like to put a jar in the freezer- it gets hard enough to make big wads that I can shove up my rear. As it melts, it lubes my plug from the inside out

The down on using vaseline/petroleum jelly with rubber toys really stems from the negative advice given by the medical profession on combining these lubes with condoms.

Condoms are very thin and petroleum jelly will severely weaken them.

However using petroleum jelly with rubber toys does not have such serious effects.

You might see a shiny surface becoming more porous, but that will be about it. It also depends on the rubber used. Cracks might develop in certain rubbers as somebody has already remarked.

Contrary to what has been said here, the damage to silicon toys caused by silicon lubes is hypothetical rather than observable.

The owner of the Square Peg toys site makes this point. Square Peg toys are all silicon and while he acknowledges the possibility, he says he knows of no actual instances of damage.

To avoid confusion, I should point out that silicon oil does not affect other rubbers.

Both silicone oil and petroleum jelly are inert in the human body. Any lube remaining inside will be passed out in the normal way.

My main objection to vaseline is that it is not as slippery as certain other lubes.

As to the expense of silicon oil I recommend buying the larger packagings and shopping around. A little silicon oil goes a long way.

The good quality water-based lubes are also remarkably expensive with the exception of course of the veterinary's stand-by, good old J-Lube.

With J-lube I think you could shove a baby grand piano up a nat's ass!

What are some safe things to use for anal lube? I have recently been using a water based hand lotion but it just drys out to fast to work. Any ideas?

Hand lotion is not good (as most of us guys have found out). Same thing for soaps, shampoos, conditioners, shave cream, tooth paste. Stop using them now. The genital and anus skin is much too sensitive for harsh products.

One of the best (and most available) for anal play is olive oil. I've also used Probe (water-based & very slick), K-Y Jelly (gooey & dries out), Vaseline (too greasy & hard to remove), Crisco (extremely greasy & hard to remove) but the one I've used the most is Wet Silicone. There are many good silicone lubricants out there now, & many are very good.

I don't use any "ana-eze" or desensitizing product, & I've read many warnings about them.

I have had lots of problems (and mess) with anal lubricants and I don't use them anymore. You don't need to buy the best anal lube becuase we all already have it: SPIT. And it's free! I like to use lots and lots of spit and then fuck slowly and then faster - the arsehole makes it's own lubricant after a while and things get nice and slippery with your own anal juices. Keep it natural, I say.

Use vaseline it is a good anal lube.
