College Physical Exam Forms

UNH seems pretty dedicated about student health. I know not all universities or colleges require health screening for all students. Athletes yes, but regular students no. They do have the hernia/genitalia box on the form. I also see UNH still outlines the urethral swab on their STI testing page. http://unh.edu/health-services/ohep/mens-health/men-basics-stis. "In testing for Gonorrhea or Chlamydia, a small q-tip like swab is inserted a short distance into your urethra (the end of your penis) and briefly rotated to obtain a specimen. This can be uncomfortable, but doesn't last long." That paragraph alone is enough to scare away any frat kid who needs to be tested. haha

Had mine at the Student Health Center in the 1960s. Form did have on it: "male genitalia," "hernia," and "anus." A nurse took me to the exam room and asked if I was wearing undershorts. I said I was and she said, "get undressed, everything off except your shorts. Doctor will be in shortly." A few minutes later a very large woman came into the room. I could barely understand her through her thick accent but did get that she was the doctor. After doing the usual looking, listening, prodding and thumping she had me lay back on the exam table. Her big hands went to the waistband of my briefs and in one quick move she pulled them off of me, Without putting on gloves she felt my dick and my balls and then told me to get down from the table and stand. She sat on a rolling stool and again felt my privates. She pushed a finger up my groin and told me to cough. She then told me to turn around and bend forward. She spread my cheeks but did not stick anything up me. She then patted my butt and told me to stand and face her. Completely naked she had me walk across the room on my heels, then on the balls of my feet. She had me do some squats, toe touches, and jumping jacks as she sat on the stool and watched. She filled out the form and said, "you healthy. Get dressed." She then left the room, leaving the door wide open.

I had a college entrance physical by my internist at 18 in 1971. The University had sent a rather lengthy form to be filled out. He got down to the genitalia/hernia part and performed the exam. He looked at the rectal part and said, "I just did one of these on you six months ago, we can skip this if you want to."

I just smiled and answered, "I have had more than a few of these in my short life." "I read the form before I brought it in, so I knew what was coming." "I won't freak out or anything." He bent me over the table and did his deed.

Fortunately i didn't have to have any kind of physical for college. the only thing i had to do was get a TB test and send in a history of immunizations.

My doctor wrote "not indicated" on all the interesting lines of my college form. When it came time to check in at school I was worried they were gonna send me off to have it done again.

"Not indicated" to do a genital exam on a man in the at-risk age group for testicular cancer?

My college required a physical exam to be completed and form submitted before you could register for classes. I could not get in to see my regular doctor so went to an urgent care / occupational health center. The doctor was very thorough and I got my first rectal exam.

Not indicated or a similar mark seems to be where we are now. I had a doctor do this with a pre-employment form. The power has shifted from the agency creating the requirements to the examiner.

The physical exam form was one of a mountain of paperwork that needed to be submitted before I started college. At the time, I had not yet found a "grown up" doctor, so even though I was 18, went to my pediatrician to have it done.

I don't remember the form itself, but as was the case every time I needed a form completed, I received roughly the same exam I got every time I went to the office (whether I had a form or not).

It was embarrassing to be so old and still going to a pediatrician. I saw the old nurse who had been there since I was a baby, but a different one (much closer to my age, arguably more awkward) did my height and weight, took me to the exam room, and told me to undress to my underwear.

When the doctor came in, he did all the normal checks. He had me lay on the long flat table, and I was embarrassed again when I spanned almost its entire length.

Usually the doctors at the practice did the genital and hernia exams with me laying down, so I was surprised that he stepped away from the table after pushing on my abdomen and moving my legs around.

He sat in one of the chairs usually used for parents accompanying their children to their exams (I had started going back alone several years ago, so these chairs were always vacant.) and had me stand uncomfortably close to him. He reached one hand into my boxers and touched my inguinal area on one side, asking me to "tighten up". Before I could even really do it, he switched sides, still keeping me fully covered and said "again?". Next thing I knew, that hand pulled the front of my boxers down (I think the back slipped down past my butt too), and he very quickly felt each testicle.

He left and allowed me to get dressed. The completed form was waiting for me at the reception desk on my way out.

The school I went to had a teaching hospital associated with it and they had the medical interns give both entrance physicals as well as sports physicals. During orientation week, appointments were scheduled for us at the student health center. When I arrived there were a lot of freshmen there and about 6-8 doctors. I signed in and within a few minutes my name was called by the Dr. that would be examining me. (He was just out of Med school, but looked like he was 20 years old) He led me to the exam room and told me to strip to my boxers and have a seat on the exam table. He stayed in the room and asked me some questions about my health as I undressed. He did a standard exam and then had me drop my boxers for what turned out to be a very extensive genital exam. Then ttold me to turn around and bend over the cam table so he could perform a rectal and prostate exam.

I have noticed recently that colleges are giving doctors more flexibility in the components of the entrance physical examination. The examiner is requested to report those areas of concern that have been noted in the examination. Then the form is signed.

My son is a student at a major public university. I expected that there would be a required entrance physical. But there was nothing of the sort. All they required was a set of immunization forms -- no physical exam at all.

I've never had to have a physical to enter university. I've had a few physicals from health services, but they were voluntary.

It's interesting that they make such a big fuss about what the athletes must wear for the physical. The fact that they insist on shorts/T-shirts leads me to believe that they won't have to remove their clothing for the exam. It sounds a big disappointing to me.

I rode along this morning to my son's college entrance physical.

About a month ago, he mentioned the need for the physical and asked if he could go to my internist.

He had spent the last four years going to a male family practice doctor who knew the required physical exam procedure needed for his private school.

I had attended all of his physicals since age 10, the first time his underwear came off. I thought he would want me to stop being in he exam room at 13 or 14. But when I asked he always said he wanted me in there.

He is going to the college that I instruct at, so I have seen the entrance physical form before. It's pretty general and outside of a genital check on male, not too much out of the ordinary.

My son had gone to the pre -interview last week. He had gotten chest x-rays, blood work, and a urine test. When he came home that day the only thing he said to me was, "The physical I am getting next week is a whole lot different from the one on the college form."

His appointment was at 8:00 this morning. This being a new patient exam, he was booked for a double appointment.

Now please understand that my son is not shy. He has been naked in front of both female and male doctors since he was 10. He is an athlete and has showered with teammates and everyday after PE because his school required it. It wasn't even his first rectal exam, so there is no horror story to be told.

He was in the exam room for close to 40 minutes. When he came out he made an appointment for six months and we left.

I rode shotgun on the way home. We stopped for breakfast at a local diner. The minute he got in the door, he headed straight for the bathroom.

When he came out, he laughed and said, "He used an incredible amount of K-Y." "I was still leaking." "I 'm glad he used a lot though because his finger is huge and it wasn't a short stay."

About halfway through breakfast, which he was wolfing down at an incredible speed, he made a comment to me, "I wonder if in other parts of the country, doctors spend so much time of boy's genital and rectums."

I asked him if he felt that he would have had a complete physical without all of the attention paid below the waist?

He answered, "No, it wouldn't seem complete."

This led to a lengthy(nearly two hour) conversation about physicals. He gave me great insight into what it was like for him to be nude during part of his exams, what he was thinking and felt during genital and rectal exams. He allso gave me great insight into the teenage psyche when comes to showering nude at school and at the health club. It was a great honest, open conversation that I think more parents should have with their kids. He ended up asking me about my feelings about medical exams. I have had the same question about our daughters for a few years now and have wondered if they have seen my posts and recognized themselves being discussed!

I'm with you on that concept. My son has a slight advantage over your daughters. He has known that I venture to this sight since he was 15. I never hid from him and when I posted something about him on the sight, I always showed him the post and any responses.

At first he was a little surprised that I wrote about medical procedures, I explained to him that we were anonymous as our names and avatars were designed to allow us privacy.

After a while he came to enjoy reading those specific posts. I think it has helped to open up a line of communication between us.

To be honest with him today, after posting my previous post, I let him all of my contributions to the site since I joined five years ago.

Before he went to bed, he smiled at me and said, "Man, dad, do we have a lot of things to talk about."

Denny, whether or not your son decides to post here, which would expand the age range or generational range, did he give you details of his exam that you could post? Jimmy, wrestlers are told to wear no more than t shirts and shorts for their annual weight determination exams which include observed urine sample and such because more clothing would slow the process by undressing times required.

My college physical was almost a matter of the doc just signing off the forms. I went to a less than reputable walk in clinic because I did not have insurance at the time. I was wearing cargo shorts and a t shirt. I was weighed, measured and vitals were taken. The doctor was with me for about 5 minutes just checked my eyes ears throat listened to my heart checked my reflexes signed the form and sent me own my way. The quickest 50 dollars I ever spent.

My college required a physical and there was a form, but I don't remember what was on it. I do remember that the physical was very complete and it was the first physical in which I had a DRE.

I had to have a complete physical for college back in the 70's. back then I accepted it, but now I believe that my health is none of their business.

In France too, there was a form for the annual mandatory physicals at university or great school ( a little the equivalent of the colleges) and the doctor and nurse followed the mentions required by the standard form generally even if thre could be some differences as regards the state of undressing for all or part of the exam and some inspections or examinations.

at middle and high school too thre was a form to respect, a doctor could perform more examoinations or required nudity for the weigh-in instead of only being only undressed in brief because it was certainly not precised but he could not perform less examinations than required.

Before college I had to get a physical done before I could start. I went to my regular doctor, so it was one of my regular physicals.

I'm going to start med school next month, and they didn't require a physical -- just a TB test and lab tests and my shot records.

I studied in France for one year when at uni and a medical was required before I could travel. I remember collecting the form from the uni and taking it to the student medical centre to book an appointment for an exam the following week. They took the form and I wish I'd kept a copy as it was fairly lengthy/detailed. I spent the week in trepidation of a very thorough exam including genital and rectal exams but in the end it was disappointing. Just a quick hernia check and bend over and spread them. The whole exam was only 15-20 mins I think 😢
