Rectal temperature in movies

Pecan, YouTube and Daily Motion each give only ONE version of UOMO DI PAGLIA, and unfortunately the relevant scene is not complete

in both cases. Daily Motion is the best. As for the timing: the film almost opens with the RT-scene, which appears around 5 minutes from

the start. In many cases, I have to wait much longer!

I've seen the beginning of Uomo di Paglia. The poor boy winces as the thermometer is inserted, it looks like she stabbed it in, not even sure she added lubricant.

There's no reason to believe the DVD is any different from the YT or DailyMotion vids. You will find that scenes which were common years ago have been edited out of many DVDs for sensitive modern audiences.

There was a French TV show called Medcins du Nuit which aired in the late '70s and early '80s. I have it on good authority that there was a real RT scene in the original TV version. Unfortunately, the scene is edited out in the DVD version which is available on the INA website.

I’ve never seen an American film that actually showed it in detail, but some have alluded to it. Porn films are another story.

Just an opinion but I think as far as seeing an actual rectal temperature being taken in an American movie; it’s not going to be permitted.

The closest I would say was in The courtship of Eddie’s father.

I totally agree that the porn aspects ruin the scene. The best vids show a realistic rt scene that need not end up with the doc's phallus in the patient's mouth.

Yes, that was Nightshift Nurses from 1989. That scene left a great impression. Most mainstream porn did not understand the art of rectal temperature taking. The fetish films by companies like Stonefox were even worse. Same ol silly scenes with some creepy doctor having the reluctant patient on her stomach with her legs together. She whines as he puts the thermometer in. Never occurred to these people the whole point of the fetish is for the women to enjoy what is happening. It's a bit demented for a man to do something to a female if she is not enjoying it. It is exciting when they enjoy it, but the doctor continues to be professional. The female tries to be professional, but it's hard to contain the pleasure. That goes with every part of the exam.

I would blow all these people away with my directing and temp taking ability. haha.

In the reactions to "L'uomo di Paglia" (Man of Straw) it is argued that such a movie would not be permitted in the USA. Also there

was a complaint that unnecessary pain was inflicted on the young Giulio, who winced during the RT-insertion.

As for the censor-part: this film was made by Pietro Germi, a noted cineast of Italian "Neo-Realism" at the time, also known for

"Divorce Italian Style, 1961. The Paglia-film was shown in all the big cities in Italy, and was featured at the Film Festival of Cannes-France

in 1958.

And then the question of maltreatment. I want to stress the point that the film as shown on YouTube and Daily Motion do NOT show the

actual RT-insertion, and there is NO proof that it really took place. Strong acting has led to the SUGGESTION that it happened.

A compliment to the actors seems deserved: quite rightly, at the Festival the film was honoured with three "Silver Ribbons"!

@captain_372 I never implied that a real rectal temperature had been taken on the boy. Just meant that in the story the poor boy (I mean the character) winces, which suggests the insertion is not done in a comfortable manner.

OK Pecan, but it remains SUGGESTION. And I have been in a hospital hall long enough myself to know that a RT-insertion leads frequently to wincing, even when the nurse was cautious and used lubrication. It is inherent to the caracter of an insertion that it entails some discomfort, and children react differently I have noticed. That's the way it is!

In Holland National Censorship existed from 1928 until 1977. But there was also Private Censorship from several shops. For instance, in Amstetdam was a Cinema Shop "The Silver Screen" that was very strict. In the mid-Seventies I went there and asked for the Video of "Boy on a Dolphin", a film from 1957 starring a 23-year old Sophia Loren, who played a sponge diver in the blue waters of Greece. That request was refused: "this is a High Art Shop, we do Godard, Fellini, Antonioni. You are out for nudity, and we don't sell that. Go somewehere else!".

A year later I asked for "L'Uomo di Paglia" that had won awards in the Cannes Festival 1958. The man said that he did not know that film, but would ask for more information, I could come back in two weeks. When I returned, there was another refusion: "I hear that this film shows a passage that breaks a huge Taboo, so repugnant that I will not even mention it! Such a film is not tolerated here, we don't sell "Straw Dogs" either!"

I riposted that the film had won prices in Cannes, but that was rejected: "Awards? Maybe the Jury drank too much French wine! I will not order that film, it is controversial and crosses a red line. If you are so desperate to see it, go to Paris or Rome!" I left the shop and never returned.

And I did not travel to Paris and Rome either. If the young Sophia Loren would have been in "Uomo di Paglia", then I would have traveled around the world. Even if it would take me 80 Days!

In the BBC TV series “The Village” a quack doctor is treating the local upper class family’s crazy daughter. He enters her bedroom holding a long thermometer with a huge dollop of cream on the end and orders everyone out and instructs them to lock the door.

My favorite rectal temperature scene in a movie is in the movie Baby Boom with Diane Keaton.

A not knowing what she's doing new mother, she's reading the directions in a baby book, as she's trying to take her baby's temperature

The script kinda plays it out like she's afraid of taking the baby's temperature that way and Ms Keaton does an excellent job of acting like that

In the movie Dr. Knock (with Omar Sy) there is a scene (@ 1:30:00) where Dr. Knock overlooks the village just before 12.00. He explains very enthusiastically and emotionally what will happen in a few moments:

‘In 350 of those houses there are 350 bedrooms where someone experiences medicine. In a few seconds it's 12.00. At 12.00 for the second time the fever will be rectally measured and 350 thermometers will penetrate at the same time’.

A French 1999 movie titled ROMANCE did not deal with rectal temperature taking per se. That said, given the nature of the movie and some of the explicit sex scenes it might have been an avenue to show a RT.

I say that because there is a very intense birth scene. It looked real! Anyway I figure, again with the birth scene , what was shown, seeing a scene where a rectal temperature taking was done, it would have probably paled in comparison. But a rectal temperature scene IMO could have been easily incorporated into the movie at some point.

As well, short of anything overtly sexual or pornographic, had such a scene been shown it would not have been much different than what one might see in a med-fet RT scene sans porn/ overt sex.

Romance had an explicit gyn exam where several young student doctors stuck their fingers in the actress' (Caroline Ducey?) snatch on camera. I doubt it could have been faked with a mannequin or a body double because of the way the scene was shot.

Again too, a rectal temperature taking scene IMO would have been really interesting and erotic.

In the Brady bunch there is an episode about two different doctors for the two families. So in the discussion a reference is made concerning having the male physician taking Cindy’s temperature. It is a subtle alluding to a rectal temperature.
