"The courtship of Eddie's father" 1963, starring Ron Howard, and Shirley Jones has a rectal temperature scene. In the movie, Ron Howard is about 7- his character is sick and his dad calls Shirley Jones's character, who is a nurse. She asks about his symptoms and his father gets a thermometer case and jar of Vaseline. "Turn over honey, I won't hurt you " Jones says as she pulls down his pajama bottoms and inserts the thermometer.The insertion is not shown and a blanket covers most of his bare bottom- in the 1960's this was a common practice and no one thought anything of taking a young child's temperature rectally.

I can’t recall seeing any movie with a rectal temp scene

I hate to revive such an old thread but I found another in the film The Lady in White! The older brother gets a painful one after talking too much when it was in his mouth.

"The Courtship of Eddie's Father" has a scene where a neighbor lady comes over and takes his son's temp rectally.

The 1970s French film Une Saison Dans la Vie d’Emmaneul has a real onscreen RT of a teen character (the actor was older). Although the lighting is dark, the doc clearly inserts a long Euro style thermo into the kid’s rectum and it’s seen standing at attention in his butt for a few seconds. You can find the movie on the Internet archive.

Also, there was a 1980s Hong Kong comedy film whose name I don’t know in which a nurse had her temp taken by a doc. He pressed the instrument against her anus and then drove it in deep. The nurse nearly jumped off the table.

There was reference to buying a rectal thermometer in “ Kindergarden Cop” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Just an adult conversation, didn’t involve kids.

Wild cats of St Trinians A British 1970 comedy featuring a very brief RT scene . Blink and you will miss it, but it's there .

Here's the Wildcat movie and it appears uncensored. Two women are shown skinny dipping from the rear. There's an infirmary scene near the end but no RT.

The baby boom, which came out in the 1980’s, had one scene where Diane Keaton was taking care of a baby, and was perplexed when she had to take the baby’s rectal temperature. I don’t remember seeing any other mainstream movies with that. A couple of videos on adult porn sites, some of which are just mediocre. An actual video involving rectal temperature taking, would have to involve an amateur film crew, with attractive models. That would probably be more realistic, than the canned variety. I’m sure that a few college students would be interested, for some extra spending cash. As long as they’re legal adults, why not?

The thermometer scene in L'Uoma di Paglia 1958 is not very explicit indeed, but it was better in the TV-Broadcasrt that I saw in 1958.

So the RT scene on YouTube has been cut. In the original movie you see the mother walking to the bed with thermometer in hand, asking her husband her husband what the normal temperature would be? And you can see the boy face down with naked buttocks, waiting anxiously.

Maybe the original movie is for sale on DVD and complete!K

“A farewell to arms” with Rock Hudson has a scene where he is hospitalized and is giving a staff nurse a difficult time and spits a thermometer out of his mouth. Enter the charge nurse ( Elaine Strich) and she is the no nonsense kind who lets him know in no uncertain terms, his temperature WILL be taken and she motions in a manner that makes her intention as to how she will do

You see the thermometer insertion you see it sticking out of his bottom you see his face a couple of times, but you never see the woman read it. why go to all the trouble of putting the thermometer in if you don’t even read it. What a shame. 🌡️

KenW, You are quite right, that the thermometer should have been read properly. But I think the passage has been cut and is simply

not fully complete. Maybe try to get a Director's Cut of "Uomo di Paglia" on DVD?

You are most likely right, but not interested enough to pay money for a blue ray or dvd. still it’s a shame they cut the removal and reading.

On a side note I have found over the years, that the one having it taken, looks so cute with just the top of a thermometer showing over their bottom while laying on their tummy, regardless of age. I do like the USA model better then the EU one though.🌡️

@AGBZ. That's kind of a large thermometer (length & thickness). He wasn't very careful how he put it in either. Glad yhe kid wasn't poked.

I think it would be very nice, when people mention movies they saw on YouTube, Dailymotion or other sites, to give a link to the version they saw and also a time when the interesting scene happens. 😃

Though not shown, in the movie The CELL featuring JLo, there is a scene where a detective in charge of a case where the suspect is apprehended and taken to a psych facility; the detective yells that he wants to know everything, even the rectal temperature of the suspect.
