What do you think of the use of dulcolax balance rectally?

I just read an ad about dulcolax balance which should normally be taken rectally.

From what I learn that fluid can't be absorbed by the colon.

So my question is if it could be an effective way to use it as enema liquid.

Has anyone experience with that?

Do you think that could work?

Just checked the website for Dulcolax, and it looks like Dulcolax Balance is taken with a glass of water. I would have to assume that would be by mouth. There are dulcolax products that are taken anally, such as suppositories, etc. I guess you could mix the powder in with your enema solution, but if your are constipated, why bother, the enema should clear your blockage anyway.

The active ingredient is polyethylene glycol (same ingredient in Miralax).

Most Dulcolax formulations have Bisacodyl as their active component. I have found that 10mg. of Dulcolax oral tablets ( the normal adult oral dose) ground up and dissolved in two quarts of warm water and taken slowly as an enema produces an extremely effective result without cramping. The Bisacodyl seems to take some little time to start acting, so that there is no hurry to administer the enema.

The "Magic Bullet" Bisacodyl suppositories also can be dissolved in warm water easily and used in the same way. But most other brands of Bisacodyl suppository do not dissolve at all easily, being formulated differently.

You should note that contact laxatives such as Bisacodyl are likely to be just as habit forming taken rectally as orally, and should only be employed when a really powerful effect is necessary.

The crushed Ducolax tablets dissolved in water enema provided me a powerful, yet not uncomfortable, expulsion response. I have limited experience with it; being cautious to avoid habit-forming exposure.

You can purchase a "pill crusher" at the pharmacy. Three of the Dulcolax Pills, which I think are 5mg each, smashed up very fine, and placed in a plastic 60 cc syringe full of warm water, can result in substantial cramping and evacuation. The powder never completely disolves but gentle shaking distributes it throughout the syringe.

I've found that a pair of slip joint pliers does and excellent job of crushing the bisacodyl tablets.

Mattheww 50 is the expert on crushed Dulcolax tabs. He used a shot glass with very hot water and a teaspoon of sodium bicarb to dissolve the coating on the tabs. Then they can be easily crushed with a spoon. I take that solution in an 8 oz. bulb syringe and follow at once with a 2 qt. bag of tap water to drive the solution up into the transverse and ascending colon. Hold it for about 5 min. and it will kick in strong and give a great expulsion. You can also use Silver Bullet suppositories, since they are water soluble and take a full bag of warm tap water to push the chemical up high
