I have found that when I wear an overnight bag, while it hangs down next to the bed, the normal leg bags do not hold enough urine for me. I can fill a 1000 ml bag up in a couple of hours. So what I have done is hang an over night bag on my waist and use it. I like the 2000 ml overnight bag by The days that I take more diuretics, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I can fill that over night bag in about 4 hours. I have been told to drink lots of water, so I pour it in, my kidneys proccess it out. So far I have not had any problem wearing my catheter and having the over night bag hanging on my waist.
I only have one belly bag, I have not used it. Sean said they are really nice to use. I will try mine later on. Yes they are pricy. They used to be less than $10.00, but now they are running close to $18.00. More than double in price. If they would hold more than the 1000 ml of urine, that would be great.
From what I have read, they have an anti-reflex device just like the smaller overnight bags (2000 ml) and smaller bags ( 500 to 1000 ml) that don't allow urine to flow back into the bladder. That is a big plus. Most of the 4000 ml overnight bags don't have that feature, as least all that I have looked at on the web.
So if you have a pretty normal bladder, using a belly bag shoud be no problem. If I can use an overnight bag, which hangs just about bladder height, the opening is waist high, the bag fills pretty normally. When I have the ability to put the over night bag down lower, I do.
I really like the Bard over night bag,Preminum Night Drainage Bag. ND2000H. They seem to work the best for me. I have used a different Bard Overnight bag,Ref# 154006. I don't like the way it drains out the bottom. That is just me I guess.
