I have had one colonoscopy and have to say I enjoyed it very much. The prep used was Fleets Phospho-Soda and clear liquids 24-hours before the procedure. When I went for the pre admission instructions the person giving me the instructions completed giving me the instructions and said, "Any questions?" And I replied, Do I have to take any enemas?" and she replied in a 'here is the good news', cheery tone, "No! You don't have to take any enemas!" I replied, "Well, doesn't that take all the fun out of it?" And she said, with a smile, "Well, you can if you want."
When I arrived the next morning for the procedure, the prep nurse asked me how the bowel prep procedure went and I replied fine and then told her I was sure I was clean because I had also taken 2 tap water 3-H enemas before coming for the procedure. Immediately, with an accusatory tone to her voice, she retorted, "Did they tell you you had to take those enemas?" And I replied, "No, it was my idea." and then she calmed down and said, "Oh, okay."
They started an IV and hung some normal saline and wheeled me into the procedure room. I remember being lubricated and seeing the tube and me spreading my butt cheeks open and feeling the tube being inserted and the next thing I remember is being in a recovery room feeling great, going home and being high most of the day and getting a great nights sleep.
Fortunately, everything turned out great and I do not have to go back for a long while, but I will not mind it when I do.
Everyone complains about the prep, but for those of us that do enemas, I feel the prep discomfort is minimized. Actually I find it hard to believe that people raise so much hell when they have to get a simple enema. But then all of us here march to a different drummer, don't we? (smile)
