What size catheter do you use?

I have tried from 10 fr to 26 fr. The 26 was very painful to remove and I bled for a while after removal. Wow, the pain of urination with tears in my urethra. Now I stick to 16 for the stimulation. I do love the feeling of insertion. Removal not so much! I am always careful with sterile technique and have never had an UTI.

I popped in a 14ch Bard Biocath this morning but I use 14's and 16's. I hope to keep this 14 in for a week maybe 10 days :-)

I tend to be comfortable at 16fr but I love 20fr for shorter periods. Will try them longer. Wearing 16fr at work can be a little uncomfortable when the meatus gets dry and there's an erection. But it's the price to pay to have fun wearing a catheter and a leg bag in front of everyone without them knowing.

How do you get a large catheter inserted without to much pain?

I have had a 26fr in for 10 months now , It has finely become ignorable . Although when I pass stone's or blood clots ,,,, I know I need to go to a bigger size . But I have been resisting my Doc's suggestion so far . It took so long to get used to this size ,, And there is only two size's larger ,,,,,,

I'm in a nursing home now and my catheter is changed every two weeks due it getting plugged from debrie and bladder stones ,,,, And I have heard all the joke's ,,,,, "When you take the catheter out ,,,, does it echo? " , Hay I found you're car keys !" . And a few others as well .

My size is FR24.Iwear tue catheter permanent.

I normally use ch16, but when I was younger I used up to ch22

20 Fr, 30 cc balloon, at times double pumped.

Right now it is a 20fr /30cc.

Got a bunch of different to try next 20-22 with smaller balloons

18-20 is most comfortable 5cc

The biggest i used was a CH 22 from Rush. It was very comfortable by using enough KY gel.

18 Fr is my usual size, I use a red rubber straight catheter.

I'm wearing the catheter permanent and today I changed the size from ch24 to ch28.

I use a Rüsch CH 22. This Catheters are very good. I take enough KY Gel.

If I recall, it’s a 18f SP. Not that big. Wow, the 24 28 sizes seem like there are more problems than just passing urine. Passing blood clots or why?

One of the med techs put a 16 and all day long pain

I still find that the 16fr with a 10ml balloon works best for me. smaller and it leaks, larger and its not as comfortable and a larger balloon causes spasms.

A 16fr goes in easy, leaks sometimes, 18fr goes in easy, but I find it moves a lot as things move, or grow, the tip gets sore after a day , a 20 fits more snug, I find less irritation as it moves less, seems my urethra grasps on to it a bit more.

I love a 28fr but occasionally I use a 30...very tight but awesome. I can pee or come around a 28, but not a 30. I guess I have a big urethra. 24 and 26 go in easy.

Now here's a new technique for catheter play... when it hangs up at the prostate, don't force, give it a twist. When it goes in... OMG!!!

After 5 years of doing Foley Catheters I made it to FR30 today, I started with a 14FR ..don’t get in a hurry, whatever you start with wear it until you feel no pain and it is very comfortable.

Fr 30 is a huge size.I also try to reach this size and at the moment I wear 24.

At the moment an FR16. But it is too small. Pee is dripping between the catheter.

i've ordered FR20 and like to test them.

The two times I was Catheterized after surgery they used a 20fr Foley. For intermittent self catching, I use a 14fr or 16fr.

I find larger helps reduce friction, a 20fr sits there and doesn’t move around as much inside creating irritation

Me being someone who has never had a catheter put in me or put one in myself how do I know what size to go with? I don't want to go to big and not be able to fit it and then I don't want to go to small to cause irratation. What size should I start with?

Most adults start with a 14fr, buy a few different sizes and work your way up. 14-18 is quite a jump for most people.
