If you haven't added salt or baking soda to your enema solution and are feeling weak, lightheaded and/or have heart palpitations, you might have overdone it and depleted your electrolytes. They're more important than you think, so drink up and take care of yourself.
I ran into this recipe in some old cookbook my mom gave me. At the end of the book, there are household tips and recipes. This was one of them. Pedialyte helps to replenish electrolytes and is given to children when they're dehydrated from being ill. Adults can use it as well. Children are just less likely to drink or take nourishment when they're ill.
Homemade Natural Pedialyte
2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons honey
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix all together. Give as needed.
Your favorite flavor of extract my be added, if desired.
Note: Babies under a year old should not be given honey. Maple syrup may be substituted.
Depending on your need, you may want to two teaspoons of herbs in the water and strain it before mixing with the honey, salt and baking soda. For example, I'm crazy about a thyme tea that is no longer made (And I still cry about it), so I would add it to the water in order to treat congestion and breathing issues. If you're ill with a stomach bug, you might want to add two teaspoons of peppermint, chamomile or ginger to the water.
