I recently had a Urodynamics test followed by a Cystoscopy a week later.
My Urodynamics test was like yours in that I had a catheter in my urethra and a rectal ballon. My test was conducted by a female nurse, a women and a young man who were introduced as representatives of the equipment company supplying the machine that measures your urine flow. The room was no larger than 8 x 10. There was a large procedure chair, counter, sink and cabinets, me and 3 other adults.
I was led into the room introduced, told to undress, sit on the treatment chair and cover with a paper sheet. They gave me a couple of minutes to undress and they all popped back in the room. The chair back was lowered and my legs bent. The nurse told me that they were going to catheterize me first to make sure my bladder was empty. She quickly unwrapped a rather large diameter, green catheter. There was no Lidocaine and it hurt passing into my bladder. My bladder was emptied and the catheter was removed. I noticed what I thought was blood on the end of the catheter when she disposed of it.
A second, smaller diameter catheter was inserted and again it hurt while going into my bladder. A small ballon was inserted in my rectum and inflated slightly. The catheter was taped to my penis and my leg. The nurse commented to the equipment crew that “you can never have enough tape and that tape is your friend.”
Once everything was in place the nurse filled my bladder and I had to relay my response for the various signs you have to go.
The nurse and the equipment tech are sitting on stools directly in front of me and the male is standing behind them. I’m sitting on this table that is shifted to an upright chair position with my legs slayed uncomfortably wide, 3 people watching, tubes in my penis and rectum when the nurse said to “pee naturally”. The last thing I could do was pee naturally. Although I was at bursting capacity I couldn’t get started with the audience present. They left the room for 30 seconds and I got it going . They rushed back in and adjusted the machine and marveled at the new charts and graphs from the new equipment.
I did not have a dye test but it was pretty humiliating.
